Kithnos is a typical Cycladian island, with a waterfront, Hora, and white roof-tiled houses built amphitheatrically. Its narrow alleyways are painted with themes from daily and naval life and its windmills keep the local colour alive. Ever since antiquity, the island has developed ceramic art, especially Driopis, which owed its growth to the skill of its inhabitants. Today, there is only one ceramic workshop which supply shops with folk art objects, lovely ceramics, crockery, and wonderful modern daily use commodities. Of particular interest are the island's boisterous festivals as the locals love to live it up. They set big tables in the squares and invite everyone who happens to be present to revel with them. Their feasts last all night, and sometimes the following day too. The air is full of the sounds of bagpipes, trumpets and violins, their traditional instruments.
