Karpathos is famous for its traditional architecture, the decoration and
design of its homes, and the long-standing popular traditions that carry
something of the past into present day life. The capital of the island, Karpathos or Pigadia, is built on the site of the ancient city Potideon and the ruins of the ancient acropolis can be seen north of the harbour.
Other town and villages worth visiting are Aperi, built at an altitude of 320 meters and considered the richest village
on the island, Menetes, with a significant archaeological collection, Othos, home to a Folk art museum, Olimbos, bastion of tradition, built to face the interior of the island rather
that the cost.
