The island of Tilos is situated between Halki and Nissiros, occupy a surface area of 63 sq. km, while the coasts are 63 km long. The island's ground is made of the stone, the only exception being a small fertile plain in the middle of the island, where the locals cultivate fruit trees, grapevines and olive groves. The island's climate is mild with warm winters, but the strong winds make the journey on the open sea dangerous. The 300 inhabitants of the island are occupied with agriculture and stock-breeding, while hotel units are under constructions, as the island has been attracting few tourists recently. Tilos is the most remote island of the Dodecanese, next to Kastelorizo, a quality which is preferred by those who long for serene, family holidays. All the tourists are very impressed by the hospitality, the easy-going manners and the kindness of the local people.
