[02] Parliament - CSE investments
Nicosia, Dec 28 (CNA) -- The House of Representatives today approved new
regulations concerning the taxation of profits from investments in the
Cyprus Stock Exchange, an issue that raised heated discussions over the
past few days.
The House adopted a joint amendment to the government bill, providing
that for 1999 the first 35 thousand pounds in profits are not taxed.

[03] Parliament - Interest rate ceiling
Nicosia, Dec 28 (CNA) -- The House of Representatives today approved
legislation lifting a maximum nine per cent ceiling on interest rates.
The new law will come into effect as from January 1 2001 and provides
for the liberalisation of interest rates.
