  • [A] NEWS ITEMS

[01] Turkish Cypriots on National Anthem issue According to illegal Bayrak Radio 1 (11:30 hours, 7.11.00), the so-called

foreign and defense ministry of the pseudostate has issued a written statement in response to United Democrats Party leader George Vassiliou, who said that Cyprus could have its own national anthem in the event of a federal solution.

A written statement issued by the so-called ministry claimed that ``it is evident that the aim of the proposal is to reinforce the deception that a Cypriot nation exists on the island and, in this way, assist the Greek Cypriot side in their goal for a unitary state structure''. The statement added that it had become definitely obvious that it is impossible to give up the Greek national anthem.

``It became obvious that it is important that the Turkish Cypriot people not stop taking precautions against the final goal of the Greek Cypriots. The Greek Cypriot side/s reaction to Vassiliou/s proposal proves once again the reality that there are two separate sovereign states and peoples in Cyprus. The reaction also shows to what extent the Turkish Cypriots are justified in protecting their state. The Turkish Cypriot people, who are proud to be part of the great Turkish nation, will continue to carry the Turkish national anthem in their heart as their most supreme value'', the statement said.

[02] Turkish Parliament on French Armenian Resolution and Cyprus

Anatolia Agency (08:35 hours, 8.11.00) reports that Turkey/s Parliamentary Dialogue Group, composed of representatives of political parties at the parliament, claimed on Wednesday that the French Senate/s wish to revive a resolution that has been kept waiting for two years, synchronously with the developments in the US and Italy indicates that a planned campaign is hatched against Turkey.

A statement also of the Parliamentary Dialogue Group said that Armenia has chosen a dangerous path like using the Armenian minority in Western countries against Turkey rather than developing good neighbourly relations with Turkey.

The statement pointed out that ``Armenia may have to pay the heavy debts of this hostile behaviour.''

The statement continued, ``the US House of Representatives/ preventing an initiative which threatened Turkish-US relations, was welcomed. That a similar initiative which supports the Armenian allegations, is brought to the agenda of the parliament of Italy, which is our NATO ally, is saddening and causes concern. A wrong step that Italy can take in this issue about which Turkish nation is very sensitive, will be a very heavy stroke for the bilateral relations.'' ``The French Senate/s wish to revive a resolution that has been kept waiting for two years, synchronously with the developments in the US and Italy indicates that a planned campaign is hatched against Turkey. We do not want to believe that France will take part in such a plot'', the statement added.

The statement also said that the resolution on Turkey which is on the agenda of the European Parliament accepts the Armenian allegations in a veiled way.

The resolution overshadows the national unity of Turkey and defends the Greek thesis on Cyprus whiles it gives many directives to Turkey/s internal affairs, the statement noted.

The statement said, ``it is not possible to bring together such a resolution with good will. With this resolution, the Helsinki resolution and Turkey/s European Union (EU) candidacy were rejected.

The EU Commission/s conditioning Turkey/s full membership on the Cyprus question and thus demanding a price in the adjustment document, cannot be accepted''.

[03] Israeli company to built luxurious complex in occupied Yialoussa The front page of KIBRIS (9.11.00) under the headlines ``Israeli lottery to

Karpasia'' and with the subtitle ``80 million dollars investment from an Israeli company in Yialoussa for a huge holiday village'' refers to the building of luxurious tourist installations at the occupied village of Yialoussa.

The representatives of the Israeli company, registered at the pseudostate as ``Kibris Zahara Limited'', briefed the press about their project ``Yialoussa 2000'', for which they applied ``officially'' to the occupation authorities for licence.

The project will be built on the coast of Yialoussa, on 550 acres of land and it will consist of a 420-room capacity hotel, 260 luxurious bungalows, 20 villas for rent or sale, a golf tennis court, a market place, conference rooms, a heath club, swimming pools and a yacht marina.

The whole project will cost 80 million dollars.

The shareholders of the Israeli company are Kamal Shajrawi and Israel Paycher, the director responsible for hotels is Neil Kaye, and the company/s architect is Shlomo Gertner.

In case the occupation authorities give permission for the rent of the land and for the confirmation of the project, the project will be completed within 3 years.

[04] Poisoned fish According to KIBRIS (9.11.00) the so-called veterinary department of the

pseudostate continues the examination of the death fish found last week at the occupied coast of Bogazi in Famagusta. It was announced that the fish that were found dead near the coast were poisoned. The reason for the poisoning has not been established and the ``department'' has warned people not to fish specific types of fish in the area.
