Bulletin 3/1/94 Athens News Agency Bulletin, Jan. 3, 1994 Athens, 3/1/1994 (ANA): The promotion of topics in the "White Book" on development, competitiveness and employment, will be the main issues to be projected by the Greek Presidency, Prime Minister Andreas Papandreou has stressed to mark assumption of European Union rotating presidency by Greece on January 1. He added the Greek Presidency will lay emphasis on expansion of the European Union. In this context promotion of Cyprus' accession application will be implemented jointly with that of Malta. "We have confidence in the Greek Presidency" said yesterday French Minister for European Affairs Alain Lamassoure. With regard to the Skopje issue, the Greek government has made it clear it will not take advantage of the Presidency to promote its position. In the political sector, the Greek Presidency will endeavour to obtain a peaceful settlement of the Yugoslav problem. The fact that Greece maintains good relations with all conflicting sides, and happens to be the only country in the region which is a member of all international organisations, brings it to the epicentre of the efforts to obtain peace. The government has not excluded the possibility of assuming the initiative of getting the warring sides to come to the table of negotiations.
