    A mostly fine day is forecast for today with a possibility of light rain in eastern and south-eastern parts of the country. Winds northerly, north-easterly moderate to strong, turning very strong in the Aegean but gradually abating from late afternoon. In Athens temperatures will range between 13C to 18C and in Thessaloniki between 9C to 15C.

    [02] Talks between Prime-minister Simitis and his British counterpart

    Greek Prime Minister Costas Simitis yesterday met with his British counterpart Tony Blair in London where talks focused mainly on Cyprus EU accession course, efforts for a settlement of the island s political problem, as well as the issue of the return of the Parthenon Marbles to Greece.

    Mr. Simitis linked Greece s request for the return of the Parthenon Marbles with the holding of the 2004 Olymmpic Games in Athens and the construction of the new modern Acropolis Museum

    Prime-minister Simitis visit to London was scheduled within the framework of his contacts with European leaders in the light of the assumption by Greece of the European Union presidency in the first half of 2003.

    Other issues on the agenda of the two prime -ministers talks ,included EU enlargement and illegal immigration.

    Following his meeting with the British Prime-minister , Mr.Simitis described as very positive the British stance on the Cyprus issue.

    [03] Negotiations for E.U enlargement enter final stage

    Briefing the leaders of the 10 candidate for admission to the E.U countries ,as well as the leaders of Turkey, Bulgaria and Rumania on the results of the Brussels summit, Danish Prime-minister , Anders Rasmousen, whose country is holding the E.U rotating presidency at present stated that negotiations for the historic E.U enlargement have entered into their final stage .

    In reply to the Turkish President request for the setting of a specific date for the opening of admission negotiations, Mr. Rasmousen said - help us to help you-while the E.U Foreign Policy and Security chief Xavie Solana called on Turkey to accept the euro-army agreement

    [04] Prospects for formation of center-left coalition

    Pasok party senior members are examining the formation of a center-left coalition.

    In an interview with the newspaper To Ethnos, Government spokesman, Hristos Protopappas spoke of cooperation with the Coalition of the Left stressing that a dialogue would be held at leadership level and would include the issue of the electoral system which as he stated would be more fair.

    Furthermore, Finance Minister, Nikos Hristodoulakis said that a progressive coalition against conservatism is being formed which will have a decisive influence on the country s political developments.

    [05] Olympic Airways work stoppage

    The Olympic Airways pilots work stoppage from 8am to 11 pm tomorrow is expected to create problems in the Olympic Airways flights . The stoppage is in protest against the abolition of the direct flight to Australia. However, the OA board has filed a suit to declare the work stoppage illegal.
