The Press and Media Minitser Mr Evangelos Venizelos stated that in the consultations on the made under the auspices of mr.Vance the issue of the name of FUROM is not being discussed. He said that the consultations concern the small package, meaning the withdrawal of the greek symbol from their flag, the change of their Constitution in the artcles which offend Greece and the lifting of the greek embargo. Mr.Venizelos stated that the name can be discussed but Greece will never recognize Skopje under the name "Macedonia" or any of the derivatives of this word. [2] PRIME MINISTER SATISFIED ON OPPOSITION LEADER'S TOUR IN THE US Greek Prime Minister Mr Andreas Papandreou expressed his satisfaction for the results of the tour the main opposition party leader Mr Miltiades Evert made on the US last week. Mr Papndreou stressed that Mr Evert handled the matters of national greek interest satisfactorily and noted that he expressed positions that coincide with those ofd the greek government. [3] BRANCH OF THE GREEK CULTURE FOUNDATION IN PARIS. The inauguration of the Greek Culture Foundation branch in Paris was made yesterday by greek Minister of Commerce, Industry, Research and Technology, mr.Kostas Simitis. In the inauguration ceremony were present the Foundation's chairman, mr.Makris, cypriot Ambassador mr.Attalidis, Metropolite of France Jeremiah and distinguished members of the literary community and also members of the greek community. Branches of the Greek Culture Foundation have already opened in Odessa, Ukraine, Alexandria in Egypt, London, Berlin and in a few days another branch will be opened in New York aiming at the promotion of the greek language and culture. [4] COOPERATION AND DEVELOPMENT ORGANIZATION CONVENTION Greek National Economy Minister Mr Yannos Papantoniou expressed his satisfaction for the results of the Ministerial convention of the Organization for the Economic Cooperation and Development. "Greece is no more the "black sheep" of the European Union" said Mr Papantoniou commenting on the recent achievements of the Greek economy. Mr Papantoniou expressed his satisfaction for the fact that the member states seem to conclude that the unemployment can be fought mainly through the small and medium enterprises, the type to which most Greek enterpises belong to. The Greek minister characterised the new policies of the Organization as "a small revolution" while he was positive towards the Russian application for connection with the Organization. Mr Papantoniou said that Grece will support fully the application Cyprus submitted so that they get full membership in the Organization. [5] NEW DEVELOPMENTS ON THE CYPRUS PROBLEM Cyprus is on the right track regarding its course towards its accession into the European Union, stated from Nicosia greek deputy Foreign Minister Georgios-Alexandros Mangakis. He also said that there are problems which will be solved jointly by Greece and Cyprus. Mr.Mangakis met this morning with Cypriot President Glafkos Kliridis and he characterized the meeting as very interesting concerning the cooperation between the greek and the cypriot Foreign Ministries aiming at the promotion of the accession procedures. The talks on Cyprus were concluded today in London and the cypriot delegation is expected to return today to Nicosia. The talks were held in the context of the US-british initiative for the solution of the Cyprus problem. According to an announcement issued at the british capital, the next steps will be decided after the contacts US Presidential envoy, Richard Beattie will have in Nicosia. In the announcement is also mentioned that the talks were clearly of an exploratory nature and that were designed to support the efforts of UN Secretary General, Boutros Ghali while it is also stressed that there will not be any more announcements or information. During the talks each side presended its positions without any intervention by the US and the british officials present. Turkish-cypriot leader, Rauf Denktash stated from the turkish occupied territories of northern Cyprus that the London talks aimed only at determining what are the positions of the two sides on the Cyprus problem. UN Secretary General, Boutros Ghali called for the respect of human rights in the turkish occupied northern Cyprus while he also called for the steping up of the procedures for the location of those still missing since the turkish invasion. The appeal is included in the UN Secretary General report submitted to the UN Human Rights Committee. In the report that was completed on February 16th but it was made public yesterday are mentioned extensively the efforts made by the turkish side to establish settlements in the regions of Famagusta and Varosia. It is also mentioned that all the cypriots must have the right of free movement, free selection of the place of residence and also the right of property ownership. Also, the turkish side is blamed for the delay in reaching an agreement between the two sides in Cyprus and also for the delay in the procedures regarding the confidence-building-measures. [6] GREEK-ARMENIAN AIR TRANSPORTATION AGREEMENT. An agreement on air transportation has been signed by Greece and Armenia. According to a statement by the greek Transportation Ministry, the agreement includes frequent flights between Athens and Yerevan that will be made by the state airlines of the two countries and also cooperation on flight security issues. [7] MOSCOW:THE FIRST GRADUATES OF GREEK STUDIES FROM THE UNIVERSITY The first students of greek studies graduated from Moscow University. They are 15 greek women from the Republics of the Caucuses, Russia and the Ukraine who entered the Linguistic University 5 years ago. The 15 students presented their graduation reports and they became professors of greek language and literature after receiving their degree in a solemn ceremony. [8] THE BOLSHOY BALLET THEATER =81=8DD THE KREMLIN BALLET IN ATHENS IN JUNE The Bolshoy Ballet Theater together with the Kremlin Ballet will present in a world first in Athens the work of greek composer D.Arapis "Zeus". It is considered a very important production which will then tour to New York, Tokyo, London and other capitals.
