Upgrading to Windows 98
If you plan to upgrade to windows 98 you have to make sure that the Greek
system fonts are installed during the installation process. This is the only
proper way to have both Greek and english system fonts on a windows 98
machine.
In case you buy your computer with the US version of Windows 98 preinstalled on it, or you have
already upgraded with only the US regional settings support, you must
reinstall Windows 98. You can do it by calling 'setup' from the windows 98 CD-Rom.
Reintalling should not affect the drivers or the programs already installed on your
computer. 1
>>> To change your regional settings support:
- During Setup, select the Custom option in the Windows 98 Setup
Wizard.
- In the Computer Settings dialog box, click Regional Settings, click
Change, and then click Greece as the country you want.
- To ensure that you have the correct support for Greek,
choose
the appropriate keyboard layout in the Computer Settings dialog
box. If you do not know which keyboard layout you need choose Greek 737/437.
This installs a Greek keyboard layout for Windows-based and
MS-DOS-based
programs.
Microsoft has created a webpage with instructions for the custom upgrade at the url http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/q189/1/36.asp
Once you complete the
reinstallation of Windows 98, we suggest that you also reinstall
Outlook 98 through the 'Web option'. This way you will also download the Greek Proofing Tools (Spell Checker) for Office 97.
