[01] Romanian prime minister meeting with IMF and World Bank
representatives
Romanian Prime Minister Victor Ciorbea said the meeting he had with IMF and
World Bank representatives Poul Thomsen and Kenneth Lay was aimed at
reviewing the way the cooperation programmes with Romania had been
fulfilled. During a separate meeting with World Bank representatives, talks
have been held over the 15 projects worth some 1.3 billion dollars already
on line. According to RADIO ROMANIA ACTUALITATI (October 26, 22:00 hours),
Mr. Ciorbea said that some of the money the former government did not use
was to be used for the projects they were iniatially planned. They also
discussed over finding solutions for financing credits for agriculture and
supporting and promoting SMEs. RADOR
[02] Romanian RT Minister about Poul Thomsen's visit to Romania
After attending the talks session with the IMF and WB representativews,
Romanian RT Minister Bogdan Bujor Teodoriu said: "I'd say there is not
about Mr. Thomsen being displeased we were talking about; of course, the
press may say whatewer it wants. It was only a meeting for evaluating
together with IMF and WB representatives the steps Romania has made on its
way to reform and for preparing some G 24 meetings." About Mr. Thomsen's
comments over Romania's concrete achievements until now, Mr. Teodoriu said:
"As far as our tasks are concerned, there are some we have reached and
others that we did not, and privatisation is one of them; we should have
accelerate the process. As for the cooperation programmes with the IMF,
they ae getting better than our economic restructuring programmes. We tried
to find solutions for speeding up structural reforms. Here is where I think
we have to pay more attention to the development process." RRI-RADOR,

[03] A possible reshuffle of Romanian government
Romanian Prime Minister Victor Ciorbea suggested that a government
reshuffle could take place after the governing coalition presents a report
in early November on its one-year in office. The Romanian prime minister
pointed out that it was not a matter of dissatisfaction with the work of
the entire government but it concerned the work of only a few ministers. We
remind you that after elections in November last year, the governing
coalition in Romania has been made up of Christian Democrats, Liberals,
Social-Democrats and representatives of ethnic Hungarian minority. RRI-

[04] Mr. Ciorbea goes to Brussels
Romanian Prime Minister Victor Ciorbea is due to take part in Brussels on
Monday in a conference of the leaders of ruling parties that are members in
the European Christian-Democratic Union. The conference will approach
issues related to the Agenda 2000 and preparetions of the EU enlargement
process. Leaving the Otopeni International Airport, Mr. Ciorbea declared
that he would plead for the non-discriminatory enlargement of the EU. RRI-

[05] Romanian revolutionaries continue their hunger strike
In Bucharest, nearly 100 participants in the Romanian revolution of
December 1989 which toppled the Ceausescu regime are in their 20-th day of
hunger strike. The action was initially started by 50 persons in protest
against government's intention to restrict some privileges such as duty
exemption, the allocation of land, trading spaces and houses for free -
facilities which the government wants only the revolution widows, orphans
and injured to enjoy. In a message to revolutionaries on Sunday, Romanian
President Emil Constantinescu calls on strikers to give up the protests
underlining that the final decision will be made in parliament, taking also
into account the proposals the revolutionaries made. RRI-RADOR, October

[06] Weather in Romania
Weather in Romania will be unstable in most of the country. Some snow falls
are forecast in the mountains. In Bucharest, a cold weather is forecast,
though the sun will shine most of the day. Temperatures will range from -4 -
