DEC. 8, 1996 DAY

NEWS REVIEW, REPUBLIKA SRPSKA

HAMBURG - The Association of active officers and noncommissioned officers of the German Bundeswehr warned that the engagement of German soldiers within SFOR in the Dayton B&H might be very dangerous. In an interview for the Hamburg daily Sonntagsblatt, the head of the Association, colonel Bernard Gerz, said he is very skeptic and doesn't know "whether SFOR's engagement will ever be ended, as well as whether German soldiers are going to stay in the Dayton B&H by 2001".

BRATUNAC - In the village of Fakovici, in the Municipality of Bratunac, a monument to the victims of the Muslim genocide committed over the Serbs in 1992 and 1993, will be built soon, in memory of the 112 residents of Fakovici and 34 surrounding villages, who were brutally killed by Muslims. The former commander of the Army of Republika Srpska (VRS) Drinski Corps, retired lieutenant-general Milenko Zivanovic, heads the newlyformed Board for building monuments.

ZENICA - Workers of the transportation enterprise "Zenicatrans" from Zenica started a hunger strike because the municipal authorities refused to replace director Mirsad Caja, persona non grata among the workers, reported the Muslim Radio Studio-Zenica. The workers barricaded themselves in one of the Zenicatrans buildings, asking for the replacement of the entire Governing Board that is, as they stated in the request, leading them to a total disaster.

BELGRADE - The Supreme Court in Serbia rejected late last night a request by the Zajedno (Together) opposition coalition for an extraordinary review of the verdict by lower court in Belgrade, that annulled 33 mandates of the coalition in the capital of Yugoslavia.

BELGRADE - At about 13:00 hrs, on the 15th day of peaceful protests by Belgrade students against the annulment of the results of the second round of local elections, about 3,000 students gathered on the plateau in front of the Faculty of Philosopshy. After the actors Ljuba Tadic and Zoran Cvijanovic addressed them, students started marching along the main streets of Belgrade.

BELGRADE - A protestor Dejan Bulatovic, who was arrested in Belgrade and sentenced to a prison term for carrying an effigy of Serbian President Milosevic in stripped prison clothing, was severely beaten and is in a critical health condition, reports the Independent Radio B-92.

PARIS - In stead of using an opportunity and heading towards a compromise, Serbian President Slobodan Milosevic "slammed a door" to a peaceful solution, reports RFI, on the occasion of the decision by Supreme Court in Serbia, on annulling seven more results of the second round of local elections, that were in the benefit of the Zajedno (Together) coalition. "Following last night's decision by the Supreme court, the situation in Serbia is being more and more worsened", warn the EURO-NEWS and ESI TV stations.

HAMBURG - Although, the situation in Belgrade reminds us of March, 1992, its very unlikely that President Slobodan Milosevic of Serbia is going again to use force so to crush demonstrations, for this time he is, according to the assessment of the German daily Zeit, interested in the support of the world.

BELGRADE - The former French defence minister and president of the Union for French Democracy, Francoise Leothar, sent a letter of support to the head of the Democratic Party (DS), Zoran Djindjic, in his struggle for democratic rights.

BELGRADE - The Main Board of the Serbian Liberal Party (SLS) supported protests in Serbia against the annulment of the results of the second round of local elections, joining to "an all-people resistance to Slobodan Milosevic's regime".
