NEWS REVIEW, REPUBLIKA SRPSKA

PRIJEDOR - The central celebration of the Day of Army of Republika Srpska /VRS/, was held in Prijedor on the city stadium, with participation of the highest state and military officials of RS and numerous guests, is the event of the highest historical importance for Serbian people western from Drina river. The festivity has begun by the inspection of military formations conducted by the president of RS and the supreme commander of VRS Biljana Plavsic, escorted by the Chief of General Staff of VRS general-major Pero Colic and his deputy general Vinko Pandurevic.

BANJA LUKA - The president of RS Biljana Plavsic talked in Banja Luka with the High international Representative Carl Bildt about some problems in implementation of the Dayton agreement. after the meeting, attended also by the minister of Internal Affairs of RS Dragan Kijac, Commissioner of IPTF Manfred Zeiner and supervisor for Brcko Robert Farrand, Bildt warned that "the showing of bad will or impossibility of implementing the peace agreement would have negative consequences as for RS so for Federation of B&H /FB&H/ too. Mr. Bildt said that there exist "some serious situations in RS", quoting the "Gajevi case" and "procedure for returning to Brcko", and tried to divide the members of the RS Government on those who are for cooperation and those who do not cooperate on the implementation of the Dayton agreement.

WASHINGTON - The co-presiding of the Council of Ministers of B&H Boro Bosic and Haris Silajdzic and the deputy minister of the Foreign Affairs Dragan Bozanic met, on the first day of official visit to U.S.A., with Mitch Mc Konnel, the president of the Subcommission of U.S. Senate for expropriation and financial actions in foreign activities of U.S. abroad. During the meeting, held in the Capitol Hill, Bosic warned the senator Konnel that on the events in RS and F B&H have influence two great mortgages - the past war and the communist heritage. "We are decisive to participate in privatisation and renewal, and because of that we need the financial aid from the international community" - stressed Mr. Bosic. Mr. Bosic and Mr. Silajdzic expressed the desire that the troops of SFOR would stay in RS and F B&H until expiring of their mandate, in June 1998, stressing that their presence is the prerequisite for peace and implementation of the Dayton Agreement.

BANJA LUKA - The president in the Presidency of B&H Momcilo Krajisnik in Banja Luka called upon the voters to vote for Serbian Democratic Party /SDS/ on the municipal elections in September. "I appeal on the voters to choose the best, because the one who is winning need not be changed" - stated Mr. Krajisnik after the Assembly of the Municipal Board of SDS in Banja Luka, attended also by the president of the National Assembly Dragan Kalinic. Mr. Krajisnik pointed out the need for giving support to the people who will strongly defend what is acquired in war, i.e. the representatives of SDS.

WASHINGTON - The international forces in RS and F B&H under the NATO command could be reinforced by new 3,000 soldiers in September, because of protection of civilians who will vote on the municipal elections - reports Reuters calling upon unnamed high official of the alliance. The commander of NATO in Europe general George Joulwan said to the reporters in Pentagon that any definitive decision about this was not brought yet. There is temporarily 31,000 soldiers from 34 countries, including 8, 500 U.S. soldiers.

ZVORNIK - The visit of the group of 49 Moslems from Kalesija, Nezuci and other places from F B&H to the cemetery in the Zvornik's village Krizevici passed without incidents - it is announced from the Police Station in Zvornik. "The attention of Moslems, mainly old men and women, was least turned towards graves. They were mainly looking at the houses and other objects in the village", stressed major Danilo Zoljic, the inspector in Police Station in Zvornik. /Moslems never go on the cemetary, except in case of funeral/.

ROME - The Italian media with the great doze of criticism report that the U. S. have decided to supply F B&H with 166 heavy weapons. This decision was sharply criticised by Italian politicians, who deem that the arming of Moslems represent the provocation against Serbs in RS.

ZAGREB - The president of the Democratic National Community DNZ Fijret Abdic accused the president in B&H Presidency Alija Izetbegovic that he destroyed the last hope for consolidation of relations in B&H, by ordering the arresting of one member of his party - reports AFP. "The arresting of Ibrahim Djedovic is the deadly attack to the efforts of the international community for normalisation of relations and democratisation in B&H - said Mr. Abdic.
