NEWS REVIEW, REPUBLIKA SRPSKA

SARAJEVO - A regular session of the National Assembly of Republika Srpska was commenced in Pale this morning. The session is presided over by the speaker of the RS Parliament, Dragan Kalinic.

SARAJEVO - The vice-premier and president of the Sate Commission on Demarcation of Republika Srpska, Velibor Ostojic, stated that neither will the RS police enter into the villages of Ostra Luka and Cvek, in the western part of Republika Srpska, that are mainly inhabited by Muslim and Croat residents, nor the police of the Federation of Bosnia and Hercegovina will enter into the villages of Mala Brusnica and Savulje in the Federation of B&H, which are mainly inhabited by Serb population all until a final agreement on the adjustment of the boundary lines in these areas is reached.

BANJA LUKA - On the occasion of the Patron St. - Vidovdan of the Army of Republika Srpska (VRS), the President of RS Biljana Plavsic sent a letter of greetings to the chief-of-staff of the General Staff, commanders and all the soldiers of the VRS.

BANJALUKA - The commander of the 1st Krayiski Corps of the Army of Republika Srpska (VRS), general Momir Talic, stated after the meeting of the Joint Military Commission, comprised of the representatives of the Army of Republika Srpska (VRS), the Croatian Defence Council (HVO) and the Army of Bosnia and Hercegovina, which took place at Ramici, near Banjaluka, that they analysed the work in the implementation of the military provisions of the Dayton Agreement. 'Mainly all of the provisions of the Dayton Agreement were respected so far', pointed Talic, adding that all the participants insisted on intensifying of the mine clearing activities in the war-waged areas. The commander of the SFOR South-West Sector, British brigadier general, Angus Remsi, stressed that all the invited commanders within his zone of responsibility also attended the meeting. It was concluded that the mine clearing teams have been devotedly carrying out their job on the mine fields marked.

GRADISKA - Late last night six Serb war prisoners, who were imprisoned for more than two years in the prison 'Lora', in the vicinity of Split, were released by the Croatian authorities at the Savski bridge, near Gradiska. The released are: Predrag /Dyure/ Maric, 33, and Mihailo /Andyelko/ Stanisic, 55, from Grahovo, then Drago /Bratislav/ Vukovic, 44, from Celinac, Braco /Iliya/ Krnetic, 39, from Krupa-na-Uni, Milan /Luka/ Stankovic, 50, from Belgrade and Slavisa /Teodora/ Malesevic /24/ from Prnyavor who decided to remain in Croatia.

ROME - Some $ 9,000,000 million more are needed for the elections in Republika Srpska and the Federation of Bosnia and Hercegovina (FB&H), writes the Rome paper 'Republica', reminding the reading public of yesterday's speech given by the OSCE chairman, Danish foreign minister, Niels Helveg Petersen in Strasbourg. While speaking at the seat of the European Parliament, Petersen appealed to the chiefs of 50 member states of the European Council to invest additional resources for providing the holding of the local elections which are to take place on September 13 and 15, 1997.

DOBOJ - Two Croats stepped on a mine and were killed in the vicinity of the boundary line between Tesany and Doboy, in the settlement of Petrova Voda, reported the SFOR Headquarters at a press conference held in Doboy. The Nordic-Poland Brigade officer, captain Ariel Karlsen, specified that some 126 mines were destroyed since March 10th. As he said, this is a considerable number, but a minimal one in comparison to the total number of the undestroyed mines in the wider area of Doboj.
