NEWS REVIEW, REPUBLIKA SRPSKA

BANJALUKA - The president of Republika Srpska (RS) Biljana Plavsic, refused the majority of attitudes and conclusions from last night's communique of the Serbian Democratic Party (SDS) Main Board. At a press conference held in Banjaluka, president Plavsic stated that she first put and then withdrew her signature from the OSCE Form 2 and two months afterwards, in agreement with RS leadership and OSCE mission chef Robert Frowick, she adjusted the content of the Form 2. She denied reports that she signed the extension of arbitration for Brcko, and stated that this was done based upon conclusions from the meeting held on November 15 1996 in Pale. She also dismissed as unfounded claims that she suspended the Ministry of Interior in Brcko, but she confirmed that she suspended minister of interior Dragan Kijac.

SARAJEVO - The international community exerted pressure on the institution of the RS president, which was the reason for a deviation from global strategic interests of the Republic, stated RS prime minister, Gojko Klickovic, adding that the new crisis would be prevailed soon. In his interview for the Serb Radio-TV, Klickovic emphasised that it was not easy to stand the pressures of the international community, which was still pushing for the B-H reintegration, which is not called for in the Dayton agreement. "All members of the SDS Main Board highly regard president Plavsic. She should return here and, in cooperation with us, try to solve the problems", stated Klickovic.

SARAJEVO - The RS Government denied accusations stated by the RS president Biljana Plavsic that the Government hid the truth on operations of the "Selekt-Imens" firm, and said that the regulatory bodies and court in charge started legal proceedings against this firm, while irregularities in the operations of the "Centrex" firm were not found.

BANJALUKA - The RS Army (VRS) General Staff announced that a new political crisis should be coped with in those state institutions where it arose. The press release, issued after the meeting between the RS president and supreme commander of the RS armed forces, Biljana Plavsic and the VRS commander general Pero Colic and his assistants, says: " The VRS acts within its legal framework, and it will maintain its legitimacy, taking into account the constitutional authorisations and capacity of the RS president and VRS supreme commander."

SARAJEVO - The president of the RS National Assembly, Dragan Kalinic, stated that "due to really difficult situation in the country", he refused the personal debate with RS president Biljana Plavsic, and said he would "soon use an opportunity to respond to her libelling". "Biljana Plavsic's decision to make public state secrets is quite surprising", he said.

BANJALUKA - Representatives of several opposition parliamentarian and non- parliamentarian parties held a joint meeting in Banjaluka to review the current political situation. They expressed their concern over the present crisis, and announced they would ask for a meeting with Biljana Plavsic, in order to clear out her further steps.

SARAJEVO - US general Jacques Klein, current administrator for Eastern Slavonija, is named for one of Westendorp's deputies, as the high representative asked for deputies with working experience in this region.

THE HAGUE - Deputy chief prosecutor, Austrian Grant Niemann demanded life sentence for Dusan Tadic, indicted for alleged crimes against humanity committed during the civil war in the former B-H. "Taking account of a special weight of crimes against humanity, I recommend to judges to determine life sentence", stated Niemann. Dusan Tadic' attorney, Nikola Kostic is surprised by demand the chief prosecutor set.
