[03] RISING PRICES OF FOOD ARTICLES

TIRANE, SEPT. 21 (ATA) - By Mimoza Allushi: Prices of various food articles keeo increasing although the increased value added tax starts on October 1.

The present level of prices for imported goods was set when USD1 was exchanged at 183 lek. Although USD1 is now exchanged with 150 lek, the level of prices remains the same.

The fact that the value added tax will be applied soon has made some traders to keep their goods in store to sell them in October.

There is an evident price rise for all articles, foodstuff in particular. Hence the price of cooking oil has increased by 20 lek and in retail sale it costs 195 a liter; sugar and rice are now sold at 95-100 lek one kg and imported macaroni at 120 lek per kg. There is also an increase of meat, fruit and vegetables prices.
