    KAKAVIJE, Oct 25 (ATA)-By H.Cani, Trade activity with Greece via the Kakavije border crossing is on the increase, customs officials at this point told ATA.

    Following the September 14 event the influx of clearances fell at minimal quotas, but after the security of the national road to southern districts also through armoured vehicles, everything seems to go back to normal.

    Around 35 to 40 vehicles are daily cleared at this customs, their number increasing on special days.

    A customs' leading official said that for the 10 months of this year the plan has been realised at optimal figures and that for the rest two months it is predicted to exceed nearly 50 per cent of the obligation.

    Meanwhile, the nationals' movement through this point during October has as well been normalised.

    For a period of time no more than two buses, from an average of 10, could move via this border crossing point. /a.ke/lm/

    [02] $1 million worth of iron-nickel lying out on Shkumbin side

    PRRENJAS, Oct 25 (ATA)-By H. Balliu, Some 100 000 tonnes of iron- nickel ore have been abandoned for five years now in Bushtrice of Librazhd (Eastern Albania). This is because of lack of sale market, according to specialists of the Prrenjas mine.

    Since the close of the mine in 1992, this amount of iron-nickel extracted from the underground lies out on the highway. It is worth $1 million. The iron-nickel mine near Librazhd has been at a state of conservation for five years. It employed some 2000 miners. /pas/lm/

    [03] "Day of Ionian poetry" approaches

    SARANDE, Oct 25 (ATA)-By Sh. Hajno, A regional activity of poetical character will be held in Sarande soon. Sources from the Soros foundation in the distrcit told ATA that the "Day of Ionian poetry" is an activity which will gather in Sarande creative youths from the southern distrcits of Gjirokaster, Sarande andthe Himara zone.

    The aim of the said foundation, through a special project, is to stimulate new talents in the field of poetry.

    It is the first time that a regional activity of poetic creativity is held in Sarande. This activity intends toturn into a yearly tradition. /a.ke/lm/

    [04] Swiss aid for Berat city

    BERAT, Oct 25 (ATA)-By I. Manka, Aid worth more than 500 000 Swiss francs was delivered by the Canton of Valle of Switzerland to leaders of Berat local government, health care institutions, as well as to the post- telegraph sector in Berat.

    The aid mainly addresses health care and post-telegraph sections. The aid consists of apparatuses to examine diseases, an auto-ambulance for the Berati hospital, four motorcycles and equipment for the Post-Telegraph.

    At his meeting with the governor of Berat, Ndue Gega, the head of the Canton of Valle, Gerhard Theodoloz, confirmed that they will keep bringing aid, mainly for the health sector.

    At a simple ceremony yesterday, the Berat municipality, declared Mr. Gerhard Theodoloz "Citizen of honour" of this city.

    In the years 1993-1997, through special contribution of Mr. Theodoloc, some 2 million francs of Swiss aid have arrived from the Valle Canton for the hospital of Berat, health sectors, communal and postal services. /pas/lm/

    [05] Dinghy blows up, three people killed and several missing

    DURRES, Oct 25 (ATA)-By G.Kabashi, Another tragedy occurred on the Vlore shore on Saturday evening.

    At around 22.30 on Saturday, a dinghy, heading for Italian shores, for yet unknown reasons, blew up, throwing all passengers into the sea, sources from the Guardia di Finanza Mission deployed in Durres told ATA.

    Preliminary reports say that the dinghy with some 22 people on board had set sail 20 minutes earlier from the Vlore beach and the explosion occurred on the western shore of the Sazan island.

    The reports say that six or seven persons, surviving the explosion are currently in the Vlore hospital, while the bodies of two women and a child were uncovered later.

    According to the same sources, searches for the persons missing in the sea continue. Also engaged in the search are two ships of the anti- contraband Mission, a motorboat and a helicopter, coming from Italy for this purpose. /pas/lm/

    [06] Egyptian shoots at police and commits suicide -Egyptian after injuring police was found dead in the building he lived-

    TIRANA, Oct 25 (ATA)-A person was found dead and a member of the public order forces was injured in a Tirana police operation late on Saturday, the spokesman of the Public Order Ministry told ATA.

    After a telephone call to the police station, the capital's commissariat 1 forces, which had information about the existence of armed persons in the house of citizen Halit Ago, encircled the house and called on the persons inside to surrender.

    At this moment one of the persons in the house shot in the direction of the police forces, injuring the commander of the RENEA special unit whose condition is not life threatening.

    At the time when the police forces entered the house, in the bathroom of the second floor, they found the dead body of Egyptian national Salah Muhamed El Said, age 29, born in Cairo and temporary resident in Tirana, where he worked in a religious foundation.

    According to preliminary investigations, the Egyptian committed suicide at a moment of psychical crisis. This is also the formal information provided in connection with the said person.

    Meanwhile, this event taking place late on October 24 has been devoted special attention by today's newspapers, which also carry comments on the dead Egyptian.

    According to two independent dailies, the Egyptian national was one of the most wanted persons by the western secret services, as member of the terrorist group led by the Saudi billionaire Osama Ben Landen.

    Ben Landen and the terrorist organisation he runs is directly accused by the U.S. government of the terrorist acts in Kenya and Tanzania on August 7 of this year, in which 247 persons were killed and some 5 000 injured. /y.pa/lm/
