[04] Claims to land ownership hinder school process

    KUKES, Sept 30 (ATA)-By R.Hoxha,

Claims to land ownership, lands where several schools have been built in Kukes district, northeast of Albania, have become an obstacle for their reconstruction through funds provided by the state budget and several humanitarian associations.

According to the director of the district education department, Islam Gjana, the reconstruction of schools in Koder Lume, Breg Lume, Shtiqen and Myc Mamez, ought to have begun since long ago.

So far, the private construction firms have not started works because those who claim to own the land do not allow the reconstruction, pretending that they too should profit something.

Such a situation has caused that over 1500 pupils of these schools have not yet begun classes.

The school blocking phenomenon over the last years has assumed broad proportions in the district of Kukes. The head of the district education department stresses that schools have been blocked also earlier in the villages of Kolesian, Arren, Cinamake and only with the intervention of the public order bodies have the classes began. /lm/
