  • [01] Rugova's Aide Denounces Serbian Criminal Acts in Podujeva and Mitrovica

NATO should at long last shift from political rhetoric to military action in Kosova if the Western governments are intent on creating the preconditions for a speedy political settlement in Kosova, Xhemail Mustafa says

PRISHTINA, March 14 (KIC) - The Serbian regime has been engaged in a systematic terror against the civilian Albanian population in Kosova villages and towns, Mr. Xhemail Mustafa, an advisor to President Ibrahim Rugova of Kosova, told the KIC today (Sunday). In this context should be viewed the criminal actions of urban terror in Podujeva and Mitrovica, which resulted in scores of Albanian casualties, killed and wounded people on Saturday, Mustafa said.

Against the backdrop of "procrastination and heretofore empty threats" on behalf of the international community, Belgrade has been massing troops and armor in Kosova and stepped up its massive- scale terror and war as part of the longstanding ethnic cleansing campaign, President Rugova's aide said.

"The fact that this terror has occurred on the eve of the second round of the Albanian-Serbian negotiations in Paris, just like it happened in Prishtina and Ferizaj at the beginning of the Rambouillet conference last month, is evidence that the Serbian regime and its secret services have been exploiting massive-scale violence and terror as an instrument to impact the course of the political negotiations on Kosova", Xhemail Mustafa told the KIC.

The criminal acts in Podujeva and Mitrovica should ring the last alarm to the international community and NATO, Mustafa said. "They should realize that Belgrade has been imposing war and state terror as devices to solve the Kosova issue". This Serbian strategy is also evident from continued Serbian military and police offensives in separate regions of Kosova, Rugova's aide said.

NATO should at long last shift from political rhetoric to military action in Kosova if the Western governments are intent on creating the preconditions for a speedy political settlement in Kosova, Xhemail Mustafa concluded.
