  • [01] An information of home affairs minister for the head of state

    Home Affairs Minister Gavril Dejeu has informed Prtesident Emil Constantinescu about results of statement of affairs drawn up by General Inspectorate of Police for the first semester of this year - a statement of Romania Presidency Press Office informs. At the same time Gavril Dejeu has specified ministry which he leads has finished off draft law concerning policeman's statute law which is to be immediately submitted to government and it is also to finish off till August 25 draft law concerning organizing and functioning of Romania Police. President Emil Constantinescu has insisted upon necessity of strengthening actions against organized criminality inclusively by consolidating directions of penal investigations and by assuring necessar number of specialists in the field of economic- financial investigations.     [02] Daniel Daianu maintains his position concerning contract Bell Helicopters

    Minister of Finance Daniel Daianu maintains his position concerning contract Bell Helicopters-IAR Ghimbav and specifies unfavourable notification about this project was given after a serious analyse which took into account present circumstances of Romanian economy, its possible developments and dinamic of international context - a statement of Ministry of Finance informs. This ministry is preoccupied by stage of public finance and national economy preoccupation which tries to combine immediate claims with those of outlook. Ministry of Finance does not make politics of country's defence but greets any initiative connected with military security of Romania - statement specifies. Consequently minister of finance invites all agents responsible of governing this country to a civilized dialogue, professionalism and using all possibilities of harmonizing positions involved in serving public.     [03] Costinesti: "Days of Romania's Alternative"

    On Sunday at Costinesti were ended "Days of Romania's Alternative" a national programme addressed to young members of this politic group. Debates were finished off with a meeting of Club of Right where it was established members of parliament who have signed Manifesto of Romanian Right to support a series of legislative proposals. Leader of Party of Romania's Alternative (PAR) Varujan Vosganian specified there were built up clubs of right in more counties from the country they gathering numerous businessmen. "Days of Romania's Alternative" from Costinesti have also included debates concerning PAR programme of regional development and legislation in this field. RADOR, August 10

    [04] In future week programme: Romanian-Hungarian official meetings

    Hungarian Defence Minister Janos Szabo will pay on Monday a working visit to Romania during which he will meet his counterpart Victor Babiuc. Meeting will take place at Oradea and it will mark the first contact between the two defence ministers since Hungarian minister was appointed. There will be discussed problems connected with bilateral co-operation in military field. Hungarian official sources inform during August 13-14 will be developed Romanian-Hungarian talks at Bucharest between experts from Ministries of Agriculture and Food Industry from Romania and Ministry of Agriculture and Country Development of Hungary aiming bringing back to a normal state of co- operation between the two countries according to agreements signed in CEFTA. During last week these co-operation relations were in a crisis caused by export of Hungarian wheat in countries arround Hungary - Romania, Poland, Croatia, Slovakia - at smaller prices than in the respective countries. Romania has proposed some steps of protection for native producers steps which were not applied yet. RADOR, August 10

    [05] Experts say works at the Cernavoda 2nd reactor should continue

    Romanian nuclear experts backed continuing works at the 2nd reactor of the Cernavoda nuclear plant. They stressed that cancelling these works could take to costs and losses greater than the investments until now in the infrastructure of the units no. 2, 3, 4 and 5. Finalizing the 2nd unit along with drawing up a coherent 25 year nuclear strategy would reduce Romania's dependency on conventional fuel imports and it would also prevent an energy crisis in the region as the country could start exporting energy. The Constanta democrat senator Viorel Pana spoke at the Romanian Union for Nuclear Industry press conference at the Constanta shipping and commodity market; he said he would back granting governmental guarantees for the 100 bil. dollar credit aimed to be used for paying the RENEL debts. RADOR, August 10

    [06] Support for farmers

    The Romanian Food and Agriculture Ministry ordered the public utility for land improvement to irrigate for free the land of the state and private farming producers. This was said on Sunday by the State Secretary in he Agriculture Ministry Adrian Dobrescu said that all farmers able to save their crops from the droughts could ask this public utility to irrigate their land as they would be able to pay only after the harvest. Mr Dobrescu also said that in a week time the Ministry would set up a draft bill aimed to grant 150 bil. lei to the farmers whose lands suffered damages. The fund could increase provided that the Finance Ministry agrees. RADOR, August 10
