  • [01] Press Conference of Mrs. Helle Degn, chairwoman of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly

At the press conference which she held before she left Romania Mrs. Helle Degn has stood for the necessity of strengthening the role of the Parliamentary Assembly within the organization. Mrs. Degn underlined that one of the priorities of Romania next year when she takes over the chairmanship of OSCE is a correction of the deficit of democracy, an action which is essential for the work of regional organizations such as the OSCE, RADIO ROMANIA ACTUALITATI reports.

[02] The forum DECENTRALIZATION, DEMOCRACY and STABILITY in South Eastern Europe

At the press conference of the forum the Romanian foreign minister Petre Roman as well as the secretary general of the Council of Europe, Walter Schwimmer said the holding of the meeting in Bucharest stressed the fact that the implementation of the programmes and provisions of the Pact of Stability depend to a large extent on the development and strengthening of the administrative and institutional capacity to prepare and put to good use the programmes which the European Community has in South Eastern Europe, informs RADIO ROMANIA ACTUALITATI.

[03] Romania and Bulgaria have agreed on the building of the second bridge across the river Danube

Romanian and Bulgarian experts have agreed to place the second bridge across the river Danube at km. 796 at a point which is up-stream the town of Calafat. According to the correspondent of RADIO ROMANIA ACTUALITATI the Romanian head of delegation said this is the best place from all points of view, environment-wise included. If the unforeseen happens there is another chosen place at km. 787 somewhere down-stresam of the same town of Calafat, reports RADIO ROMANIA ACTUALITATI.

[04] Statement of the Spokesman of the Presidency of Romania

President Emil Constantinescu watched very closely and very attentively the debates within the coalition following the resignation from the Democratic Party of defense minister Victor Babiuc says spokesman of the Presidency Rasvan Popescu adding that the situation created led to a rather exagerated attitude of transports minister Traian Basescu who made use of low expressions and words which do nothing else but enhance a suburban behaviour of the latter mentioned person. In no way is the President of Romania intent on expecting appologies from Mr. Basescu whose very personal manner of approaching issues should not be turned into a political problem. The President of Romania asks the Ruling Coalition members to resume efforts to speedily solve the situation created and then be informed of the solution adds the spokesman of the Presidency of Romania, quotes RADIO ROMANIA ACTUALITATI.

[05] President of the Democratic Party, Petre Roman, about the crisis triggered by the resignation of Victor Babiuc from PD

The President of the Democratic Party, Petre Roman, said on Wednesday at the Palace of the Romanian Parliament, that the decision for the solving of the crisis generated by the resignation from PD of Victor Babiuc falls within the competence of the ruling Coalition parties. At the same time Petre Roman said that Cabinet minister Traian Basescu will ask to be received by President Emil Constantinescu in connection with the statement uttered on Tuesday. At the same time the PD leader announced that the concrete and constitutional solution for the portfolio of defense will be announced very soon, reports RADIO ROMANIA ACTUALITATI.

[06] Letter sent by Victor Babiuc to PD President Petre Roman

In an open letter to the President of the Democratic Party, outgoing defense minister Victor Babiuc who also resigned from his position with the Democratic Party and from the party as such writes that his resignation was handed in to the right person who can use it according to the Constitution. The letter was distributed to the media and the text received by RADIO ROMANIA ACTUALITATI specifies that Babiuc has done everything in his power to find himself something useful to do in the structures of the party. Directly addressing himself to the leader of the party, Babiuc writes, we quote: " Instead of a regrettable separation which is agreed upon in a civilized manner you have resorted to scandal and political vendetta ". Babiuc writes that PD is being destroyed from within and he has left the party when he realized he could not do anything to stop the dissolution of the party. Babiuc accuses Petre Roman of arrogance and lack of responsibility.

[07] Press Bureau of the Democratic Party - PD - about the letter sent by Victor Babiuc

In connection with the open letter sent by outgoing defense minister Victor Babiuc to the leader of the PD Democratic Party, Petre Roman, the Press Bureau of that party specifies that the PD leader has not made any public comment regarding Mr. Babiuc after the latter announced his resignation from the party. Mr. Roman noted alongside the other party members that Mr. Babiuc did not hand in his resignation from the position of defense minister although he publicly said he did. It was in this connection that Party leader Roman said, to the other party members, that Mr. Babiuc has no honour, the communique mentions. Referring to the endless offenses at the address of PD of Mr. Babiuc the communique mentions : " why is that Mr. Babiuc did not tell us a thing about the way he thought about us when we asked him to further remain Defense Minister last year on 21 December when the Isarescu cabinet was set up ", informs RADIO ROMANIA ACTUALITATI.

[08] Cianide situation on the river Danube

According to specialists of the national company ROMANIAN WATERS Dobrogea - the Black Sea Coast of Romania which permanently monitors the pollution of the river Danube with cianide reports read that cianide concentration is of 0.021 mg per litre in the Chiciu area while the left bank of the river registers a concentration of 0.025 mg per litre. Water flow of the Danube is slower in that sector so cianide polluted waters reach Cernavoda in the evening reports the correspondent of RADIO ROMANIA ACTUALITATI.
