  • [09] Days of information Leonardo Da Vinci </UL> <HR SIZE=5> CALENDAR Plenum debates of the Senate. Consultations between Prime Minister Mugur Isarescu the minister of social protection Smaranda Dobrescu and leaders of parliamentary groups with a view to working out the draft of the early pensioning plan. Prime Minister Mugur Isarescu is meeting the leaders of parliamentary parties to discuss the strategy of economic and social development of Romania on a medium term. The Cabinet approved the draft of the Law of the state budget for the current year; its provisions will be presented in detail today as part of a press conference at the Victoria Palace. Meeting takes place of the Commission led by Academician Tudorel Postolache head of the government commission for the working out of the strategy of development on a medium term of Romania with all parliamentary parties to establish the basic principles of the strategy of development of Romania on a long term. Mihai Razvan Ungureanu secretary of state with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs will meet with the Ambassadors of the states which are NATO members; the meeting takes place here in Bucharest and its aim is the discussion of the stage of the fulfillment of the objectives included in the National Programme of Accession. A Romanian delegation leaves for Brussels to renegociate with the European Union tariff concessions as well as the increase of the level of liberalization of agricultural produce trade. The United States Ambassador to Romania James Rosapepe is in the town of Oradea alongside the United States Ambassador to Hungary in order to enhance the efforts of the US Administration to support the International Romanian - Hungarian Joint Commission. At the request of Ambassador Rosapepe a team of engineers of the US ARMY will be in Baia Mare for seven days starting today to examine the system of AURUL Company water spillways. <HR SIZE=5> POLITICS, ECONOMIC and FINANCIAL NEWS Chamber of Deputies rejected the motion of the opposition regarding the situation of the Romanian education With 86 votes for, 118 votes against and 3 abstentions, the deputies rejected the motion on the situation of education, reports RADIO ROMANIA ACTUALITATI. Minister of Education Andrei Marga said that the motion has no longer any aim as long as the government passed an emergency ordinance regulating the salaries of the teachers. RADOR

  • [01] Convention of brotherhood of the Bank of Romania signed with three other European banks

    The National Bank of Romania, the National Bank of France, the Bank of Italy and the Bank of Netherlands by the national governors and in the presence of the Head of the European Commission to Romania, Fokion Fotiadis, signed the documents attesting to their incepted brotherhood. The Governor of the National Bank of France, Jean Claude Trichet said on this occasion that the signing is of good omen for the future collaboration of the four banks mentioned before. Also on Monday Jean Claude Trichet was received by President Emil Constantinescu and by Prime Minister Mugur Isarescu. The head of the Romanian state particularly appreciated the diplomatic support of France which was decisive for the start of negociations with a view to Romania's accession to the European Union.

    [02] Conference on the theme EURO AFTER FOURTEEN MONTHS

    The Governor of the National Bank of France, Jean Claude Trichet said in Bucharest at the conference which he delivered on the theme EURO AFTER FOURTEEN MONTHS that the budget policy of the European Union countries is well balanced although there is no single budgetary policy nor a single European federal budget. He added that the structural reforms alongside the introduction of the single European currency will stimulate European governments to cooperate further in the field of real economic development, informed RADIO ROMANIA ACTUALITATI.     [03] The seminar BUILDING OF ROMANIAN COMPETITIVE ECONOMY IN THE INTERNATIONAL MARKETS

    WORLD TRADE CENTER conference center hosted the seminar on the afore mentioned theme; at the debates participating were specialists of PNR, representatives of the employers,personalities of the economic life of Romania. President of the Party, Virgil Magureanu, said that viable economic recovery can take place only in conditions in which all sides implied make all efforts, reports RADIO ROMANIA ACTUALITATI. RADOR

    [04] United States investments in Romania have increased

    United States Ambassador to Romania, James Rosapepe, said on Monday as part of a press conference that United States investments in Romania have reached second place in 1999, after having been sixth until then.He added that last year alone investments of the United States increased by 5o per cent as against the other eight years taken together. Hundreds of United States companies among which big names such as General Electric, Texaco and Hewlett Packard, Citibank and Kodak increased investments in Romania last year added ambassador Rosapepe, quotes RADIO ROMANIA ACTUALITATI.     [05] French Army Head of Chiefs of Staff, Jean Pierre Kelche visits Bucharest

    Head of the Chiefs of staff of the Romanian army Mircea Chelaru met on Monday with the Head of the chiefs of Staff of the French Army, Jean Pierre Kelche. After the meeting the press conference emphasized that the two discussed about the situation in Kosovo, the initiative of European defense and continuation of cooperation in the spirit of tradition of relations between the Romanian and the French armies. General Chelaru specified that the French guest approached with the Romanian defense minister Victor Babiuc the issue of modernizing Romanian fighter helicopters by cooperation with the Eurocopter Company, specifies RADIO ROMANIA ACTUALITATI.     [06] Days of information Leonardo Da Vinci

    The information center of the European Commission in Bucharest saw the opening of the Days of Information Leonardo Da Vinci, a community programme destined to professional moulding of the labor force. This is part of the ensemble of activities organized by the potential project promoters. As part of the first stage of the programme, the dead-line for the projects is 27 March. Since 1997 Romania has advanced 421 proposals aimed at professional improvement, RADIO ROMANIA ACTUALITATI transmits. RADOR
