[01] Romanian chartered engineers to work for the modernization of the
British rail roads
RAILTRACK which is administering the British Rail Roads is hiring 14
Romanian chartered engineers who will work for the modernization of the
rail roads of the British Isles following the rather numerous accidents
that happened of late. Hiring has been made by the Scotish company FIRST
ENGINEERING which will take care of the modernization of the lighting and
signaling system from Sctoland to North Western England.
[02] Hungarian State sues the AURUL Company of the town of Baia Mare
The Government Commissioner Janos Gonczi who is quoted by the MTI Agency
and then by RADIO ROMANIA ACTUALITATI said the Hungarian state sues AURUL
Company of the town of Baia Mare for very serious polluting action. The
Hungarian official added that both Budapest and Bucharest agreed on
designating the very dangerous areas pollution-wise.
[03] Programme of the World Bank of closing down several mining units in
the Jiu Valley
The coordinator of programmes of the World Bank, Enis Denny, visited the
Jiu Valley and came up with the conclusion that several more programmes are
needed to solve the social issues which might become problems after the
mines there are closed down. The programme in question is worth 60 million
USD of which 15 are supplied by the Government of Romania and the rest by
the World Bank and Mr. Denny said, as quoted before, that the Jiu Valley
needs several other programmes for its economic relaunching.
[04] International research project which is applied at Baia Mare
An international project which is financed by the European Union started
being applied at Baia Mare on the theme of investigating the risks of
poisoning water courses with gold cyanide as well as its risks for Central
Asia and Central Europe. The projects lasts for three years and it implies
institutes of medicine, public health and hygiene of the environment of
Germany, England, Russia, Khazachstan, Kirghistan and Romania. The guests
also visited while in the town of Baia Mare the AURUL Company which was
involved in spilling cyanide in the water courses near the site of the
company earlier this year.

Session of the Permanent Bureau of the Chamber of Deputies.
A delegation representing the Government of Romania led by Mr. Ungureanu
who is secretary of state with the Foreign Affairs Ministry of Romania are
in Budapest, Hungary, in the interval 30 Oct. - 4 Nov. for the 46 - th
annual session of A T A - the Association of the Atlantic Treaty.
Present at the session is the NATO secretary general George Robertson as
well as foreign ministers of member states and other countries which are
candidates to be admitted in the organization as well as from Austria which
is a member of the Partnership for Peace.
Eugen Dijmarescu, secretary of state with the Foreign Affairs Ministry of
Romania, is now in Athens, Greece, for talks with the ad-interim foreign
minister of the Hellenic Republic, Mrs. Elisabeta Papazi.
The World Trade Center of Bucharest is hosting for three days the Arts Fair,
opening is at 17:00 today.
