KARADZIC REMAINS PRESIDENT

SARAJEVO, June 30, 1996 /SRNA/ The vicepresident of the Republika Srpska (RS), Biljana Plavsic confirmed today that Dr. Radovan Karadzic remains in the future the Republika Srpska president.

In a statement for SRNA, Mrs. Plavsic denied some news of world agencies saying that president Karadzic resigned, appoint ing Mrs. Plavsic for his successor.

"The president Karadzic used the constitutional right and on the basis of Article 3 of the Srpska Constitution amendment 40, he brought decision for transferring his authorities to one of presidents, in this case on me", stated Plavsic, specifying that she further remains the vice president of Republika Srpska.

As she added, the decision which the Srpska president made "because of temporarily impossibility for doing his function", goes into effect today, on June 30, and it will not change any thing within the state policy.

Vicepresident Plavsic characterised the calculations by TV- CNN saying that possible resignation by the Republika Srpska president "would provoke great internal political ferments", as "speculations".

"The Srpska leadership carries out and will carry out the honest policy that is of the interest for the people", said Plavsic, stressing that president Karadzic was legally elected for this function by the people and that he remains at the post until the elections scheduled for September.
