SEPT. 27, 1996 DAY
NEWS REVIEW, REPUBLIKA SRPSKA
SARAJEVO - The Provisional Electoral Commission rejected a demand from the
Appellation Subcommission that the votes are counted anew. The Appellation
Subcommission sent the demand after proceeding a number of complaints
pertaining to deceits and errors in the determination of constituency
figures and the results of elections.
BANJALUKA - The president of the Serbian Radical Party (SRS) for RS, Nikola
Poplasen, sent a letter of and complaint to the OSCE Mission, protesting
the way of determination and publishing of preliminary results of the
elections in RS and the Croat- Muslim Federation. In a press release, the
SRS for RS emphasises that this political party timely submitted a
complaint to the Electoral Appellation Subcommission protesting the way of
determination of results of the September elections, on the base of which
the SRS for RS is denied a seat in the House of Representatives of the
Dayton B-H.
BIJELJINA - The SRS RS spokesman, Stanko Babic, assessed in Bijeljina that
the international elements and Yugoslav officials undertook all necessary
steps so as to prevent the victory of patriotic forces at the September
elections in RS.
HAMBURG - The German paper "Velt" reports from the NATO ministerial
conference in Bergen of a warning by the top-levelled NATO officers that
there was a latent danger of the renewal of clashes in RS and the Croat-
Muslim Federation. NATO Europe commander, general George Joulwan, and the
chairman of the Alliance's military Board, German officer Claus Neumen,
consider that there is still existent a military tension and possibility
that recent foes carry out a military mobilisation in a few weeks time.
STOCKHOLM - The issues discussed at the two-day meeting of defence
ministers of NATO countries, in the Norwegian city of Bergen, were the
future NATO presence in the Dayton B-H beyond their mandate, and the
expansion of this military alliance. Swedish commentators conclude that
NATO ministers reached a general agreement on the continuation of the
presence of foreign troops in RS and the Federation of B-H, but in a
reduced size. BIJELJINA - In the past two months, out of 11,931 in
total living in collective centres, 2,736 of them moved out. Additional 16
centres were planned to be closed in the next 13 days, announced the
Commissariat for Refugees and Humanitarian Aid.
