NEWS REVIEW, REPUBLIKA SRPSKA

BANJALUKA - The vice-president of the RS National Assembly and president of the Serbian Radical Party (SRS), Nikola Poplasen, talked in Banjaluka with the State Department representative in IFOR's mission in RS and the Federation of B&H, Jim Koyl, on the current political issues. "RS is ready to participate in establishing peace in the area, but the respecting of the Dayton agreement, and first of all of its signatories, is necessary for the project", stressed vice-president Poplasen. They concluded in the talks that the problem of Brcko has to be approached very cautiously, for its complicating might possibly slow down the peace process.

SARAJEVO - The Ministry of education and culture and the Ministry of higher education and science, held a joint session in Pale. A draft plan for the improvement of education, science and culture, as well as a plan for the reform of education were considered at the session. The session was presided by the RS president for social affairs, Velibor Ostojic, who announced the establishment of a special detachment of the RS government in Banjaluka, as well as a new regional division of the RS territory.

SARAJEVO - In accordance with the planned reorganisation of the RS government, we have established two Ministries - the Ministry of education and culture and the Ministry of higher education and science, stated the RS vice-president for social affairs, Velibor Ostojic. RS premier Gojko Klickovic made a decision on that the RS vice-president for social affairs will exercise the duty of the minister of education and culture and Stevan Stevic will be the minister for higher education and science.

SARAJEVO - RS minister of information, Svetlana Siljegovic, talked in Pale with IPTF spokesman, Alex Ivanko, about the future cooperation in the field of information. It was agreed at the meeting that from the next year IPTF regular news conferences, which are being held at the Sarajevo airport, will be held once a week in Pale. The meeting was attended by the deputy RS minister for foreign affairs, Dragan Bozanic and the chief of the UN Liaison Office, Geoffrey Beaumont.

SARAJEVO - The head of the OSCE mission in the Dayton B&H, Robert Frowick, confirmed in Sarajevo that a Memorandum on understanding was signed with the RS representatives, according to which refugees from the Republic of the Srpska Krajina will be able to vote at the forthcoming municipal elections which will be held in the first half of the next year. So, at the session of the Consultative Council of political parties from both RS and the Federation of B&H, Frowick admitted for the first time that the Serbs from the RSK were expelled, although many of the international community representatives have been for such a long time closing their eyes before the fact.

BELGRADE - The Federation of B&H president, Kresimir Zubak, stated that incidents, as are occurring in Mostar, are organised by "those who want nothing good to the Croats". As Croatian Radio reports, Zubak stated in an interview for journalist that it is very questionable to have these incidents usually occurred on the eve of important international conferences, just as we have now before the holding of a session of the Federation Forum in the city.

BELGRADE - His Holiness Patriarch of the Serbs, Pavle, learned himself in the talks with a delegation of the RSK (Republic of the Srpska Krajina) National Assembly and the Red Cross being in exile, about an extremely difficult situation being faced by the people expelled from the Krajina. According to a communique made available to SRNA by the Assembly's Information Service, numerous problems of which the most important is the unresolved status of refugees - citizenship, the right to work and retirement, legal property compensation, the right to return, the right to vote, and etc., were presented to His Holiness.

BELGRADE - The Socialist Party of Serbia (SPS) announced in Serbia that it wish to talk with the opposition at the Serbian Parliament building, about the past elections and the role of media. The SPS leadership decided to launch an initiative among representatives of all the parties in the Parliament for "exchanging views on experiences from the last elections".

NOVI SAD - More than 10,000 of students and citizens, headed by the newly- elected mayor, Mihajlo Svilar, saw some 200 students of the University in Novi Sad off, who are heading on foot to Belgrade. They have a 80km long way ahead which will take them, as they expect, about 20 hrs to reach Belgrade and join their Belgrade's colleagues tomorrow afternoon.

BELGRADE - The Zajedno (Together) coalition, called the demonstrators, who are supporting them in their protests against the annulment of the results of local elections, to persist in their effort, for "the peaceful riot is entering a final phase". The Democratic Party leader, Zoran Djindjic, said that "the demonstrators are unyielding and are going surely to endure longer than the regime in Serbia".
