THESSALONIKI - Yesterday, the rector of the University of Banjaluka and RS vice-president, Dragoljub Mirjanic, signed a Protocol on cooperation within the AIMOS network, in which some universities from the Balkans and Black Sea regions were included. The new network will function within the European Rectors Association, in the composition of which 540 European universities are included. 'The functions of the new rectors organisation are pertaining to, first of all, the higher education, science, technology and development, culture and history of the certain regions', stated Mirjanic.

BRCKO - The announcement of the OSCE's chief, Robert Frowick, on the postponement of the local elections in the Brcko area is totally unexpected, commented the head of the Municipal Assembly of Brcko, Miodrag Pajic. 'There is no reason for the elections in Brcko not to take place at a time with the elections in the other towns in RS and the Federation of B&H', he added.

BRCKO - The representative of the Russian Federation in RS and the Federation of B&H, Yakov Gerasimov, assessed in Brcko that the return of refugees will represent the most difficult part in the implementation of the decision made by the presiding arbiter. After the talks with the head of the Brcko Municipal Assembly, Miodrag Pajic, Gerasimov stressed that he got acquainted with the state of affairs in and around the city of Brcko.

BANJALUKA - Yesterday in Drvar, Croatian policemen arrested Slavko Kuridza, Slobodan and Pero Trikic, who arrived by a UNHCR bus together with 20 other Serb refugees from Banjaluka in order to pay a visit to an Orthodox cemetery. This was testified by Pero and Slobodan Trikic, who, after being arrested and interrogated in the Drvar police station, were released while Kuridza is still imprisoned.

BANJALUKA - Out of 29, only the bodies of three Serb soldiers, who lost their lives during the Muslim offensive launched on Mr. Ozren in Autumn, 1995, were identified in Banjaluka. The bodies were exchanged just three days ago in Stanica Rijeka, in the vicinity of Doboj. An expert team and members of the RS State Commission for Exchange of POW and Missing Persons, with the help of the families and relatives of the killed, identified the bodies of Mile Bilic from Prijedor, Boro Markovic from Bijeljina and Zoran Kukolj from Laktasi.

BERLIN - The UNHCR high commissioner for Germany, Judith Kumin, assessed that the mass return of refugees from Germany may provoke new conflicts in RS and the Federation of B&H. In an interview for the German Tages Spiegel, she criticised the German province representatives because of their intention to expel the refugees en masse. 'The deportation should begin, but what is to be done with those who were expelled from their homes and who have no place to return to. They should not be returned from Germany', added Kumin.

BELGRADE - The Serbs from the Serb Eastern Slavonia, Baranja and Western Srem District have the right to come out at a referendum, but the results of its will have no influence on the holding of the local and regional elections which are to be held on April 13 in Croatia', stated the UN spokesperson, Suzanne Manuel in Belgrade. About 100,000 of citizens of the District will come out on the referendum tomorrow where they are to vote for its intactness. By the referendum the Serbs want to achieve a territorial and political unity of the District, which is being rejected by the Croatian authorities and UNTAES.

VUKOVAR - The charge d'affaires of the FR Yugoslavian Embassy to Croatia, Veljko Knezevic, stated in Vukovar that the Yugoslavian and Croatian delegations reached an agreement on the regime of the establishment of the border crossings between the two states and the demilitarisation of the Sremsko-baranjska District. 'The regime is to be applied in the civilian border crossings, no matter whether the international, inter-state or local border crossings are in question', explained Knezevic, after he had informed the Sremsko-baranjska District leadership about the results of the talks that were held between the FR Yugoslavian and Croatian delegations during the last two days in Zagreb.

ZAGREB - The delegations of the FR Yugoslavia and Croatia reached an agreement in Zagreb on the need for establishing the border crossings between the two states and they concluded that the competent ministries are to bring closer their positions on the professional and technical details, announced the Croatian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The agreement was reached during the talks on the proposals for the Agreement on the establishment of the border crossings, in the scope of the realisation of the Agreement on the normalisation of relations between FR Yugoslavia and Croatia.
