BANJA LUKA - The president of Republika Srpska /RS/ Biljana Plavsic
supported the efforts in the consistent implementation of the Dayton
Agreement, and accentuated that particular provisions of the Peace Accords
represent the long-term process, what many politicians do not want to
understand. At the press conference she particularly talked about the
meeting with the US State Secretary Madeleine Albright and the Sintra
Conference. "Albright stressed the importance of respecting all the
segments of Dayton Agreement for Republika Srpska, and relating the return
of refugees, I conveyed her all that I said in Sintra", said president
Plavsic.
BANJA LUKA - The president of RS Biljana Plavsic talked in Banja Luka with
UN under-secretary for peace operations Bernard Miyet about the impending
reorganisation of police of RS and FB&H, in accordance with the
instructions of IPTF - it is announced from the Cabinet of the president of
RS. As stated in the announcement, they talked also about the freedom of
movement, problems of check points, return of refugees, and UNHCR programme
of opened cities.
LUKSEMBURG - The newly elected High Representative of the international
community for civil affairs in RS and FB&H Carlos Westendorp stressed at
the press conference in Luksemburg that in next 18-24 months additional
efforts must be made with the aim of creating the unitary B&H. "It is true
that former warred parties do not fight one against the other no more, but
also that they can't live separately. Our task is the creating the
unitary state", stressed Westendorp, who, together with Carl Bildt,
attended the meeting of the ministries of Foreign Affairs of EU in
Luksemburg.
BANJA LUKA - The SFOR spokesman for sector South-West Robert Jordan
assessed at the press conference in Banja Luka that last week in RS passed
without incidents. He added that incidents occurred only in Federation B&H,
and he quoted that on June 2, 13,30 h the vehicle of Croatian Defence
Council with the soldiers for mine clearance came on the mine. The vehicle
was turned upside down and few soldiers injured. Jordan stated that all
around FB&H mines are being set along the roads, and civilians are affected
by it, most frequently children.
BUDAPEST - The NATO commander for Europe George Joulwan welcomed the new
harder stance of the western governments against former warred parties in
B&H, saying that the meeting in Sintra confirmed all for what western
diplomats were making their efforts, reports Reuters. "Now we have clear
objectives, determined deadlines for its fulfilment and the authority to
make pressure on all parties", said Joulwan, stressing that "still he
didn't get new orders for more actively searching for the indicted war
criminals".
ZVORNIK - The chief of the field office of OSCE in Zvornik Cesare Bertini
stated that the cooperation of local authorities and local Electoral
commission with the supervisors and arbitrators is very good. "It is for
praise, because both sides are doing their best to solve every problem in
the most careful way" - said Bertini.
