JULY 30 1997 EVENING

NEWS REVIEW, REPUBLIKA SRPSKA

TREBINJE - The president of Republika Srpska /RS/ Biljana Plavsic stated in Trebinje that "people at the new elections can elect new Assembly" which, according to her, would have been the turning point for Serbs. At the rally before around 2,000 of citizens the president repeated her old stance that "the work of the National Assembly is illegal", accentuating again "the criminal acts" in the state. "By dissolving the Assembly I gave to the people the right which belongs to it by Constitution - to choose new people", said Ms. Plavsic, expressing the conviction that, as she said, the people this time will not fail in its democratic choice.

PRISTINA - The president in the Presidency of B&H from RS Momcilo Krajisnik assessed for Pristina's news "Jedinstvo" that the president of RS Biljana Plavsic "made two basic mistakes" - dissolved the National Assembly, the most sacred institution of Republika Srpska, and attacked Dr. Radovan Karadzic. In an interview which will be issued tomorrow in this news Krajisnik stressed that the assembly during the war was "the greatest defensive wall of RS", and that the presidential attacks against Dr. Karadzic followed "only because somebody in the West told her that RS will be isolated if she do not hedge herself from him". He warned that "the crisis is created under the influence of the international factors who want to present RS as criminalized state, so they can avoid giving aid and make an excuse for that".

SARAJEVO - The vice-president of RS Government Aleksa Buha stated that at the meeting with chief of OSCE Mission Robert Frowick and political director of this organisation Vladimir Kuznietsov in Pale were clarified two key points in relation with the impending municipal elections. Frowick promised that the definitive lists of registered voters in all particular municipalities will be ready around August 20, and some stances about the work papers of OSCE about implementation of electoral results were clarified too. OSCE will take care about electoral results to be confirmed in the Assembly and that the municipal parliaments would be established on that basis, and then also the executive authorities in the municipalities, what is the matter of the winning party or more of them.

DOBOJ - About twenty Moslems from Gracanica invaded around 13,00 h in the Serbian village Svjetlica, near Doboj, which is on the territory of RS, abusing and threatening the Serbian refugees who found the accommodation here. Infuriated assailants inflicted to the Serbian civilians more body injuries, because of what they had to look for the medical care in the Doboj's Medical Centre.

This incident provoked the revolt of the citizens of Svjetlica and neighbouring Poljice, and the wider clash between them and Moslems from Gracanica happened.

SARAJEVO - The members of the Council of Ministers of B&H talked in Sarajevo with the NATO Secretary General Javier Solana about the signing the Memorandum on opening the airports in Banja Luka, Mostar and Tuzla. The co-presiding of the Council of Ministers Boro Bosic after the meeting expressed his conviction that the disputable issue of the property of the airports is clarified and explained that these traffic places will be returned to the previous owners, which means that the airport in Banja Luka will be returned again to the city of Banja Luka.

SARAJEVO - The Presidency of B&H had the meeting in Sarajevo with the NATO Secretary General Javier Solana on signing the Memorandum on opening the airports in Banja Luka, Mostar and Tuzla, and about the work of the Permanent military committee. Instead of the president in the Presidency of B&H from RS Momcilo Krajisnik at the meeting was the deputy minister of the Foreign affairs in the Council of Ministers Dragan Bozanic. "The memorandum could soon be signed if the previous stance which we defend is accepted, and that is that the airports must be returned to the previous owners", said Mr. Bozanic.

SARAJEVO - The minister of the Information of RS Svetlana Siljegovic sent a protest letter to the High Representative of the international community Carlos Westendorp because of the permanent satanization of the Serbian people in the media of Federation B&H /FB&H/. While reminding that RS Government, as well as she personally, have no a habit to complaint against the media in Federation, Siljegovic concludes that the campaign which in them lasts for years against Serbian people - is incredible. As an example for such allegations, and the reason for writing the protest letter, the minister of Information cited the writing of Sarajevo's "Vecernje Novine" from July 28 in which they claim that the particular Serbian demobilised Serbian soldiers allegedly do zoofilia (sexual contact with animals).

SARAJEVO - The state media in RS, being engaged everyday and having distinctly profiled editorial policy, professionally and at the high level responded to the moment in which it was and in which is now Republika Srpska and truly reported and interpreted the stances and policy of the state institutions, is assessed at the session of the Council of media of RS Government. In more hours discussion with the general directors and responsible editors in chief of the state media, the Council, under presiding of vice-president of RS Government Velibor Ostojic, assessed that, besides the violent attacks of the international factors, the state media, contrary to so called independent and other media in RS, gave the real expression of the situation which had arisen and helped to the state organs to function.

"The prosecutor forwarded to the defence the certain documentation and, as we supposed, lot of that accusing material is related to the testimonies of the various witnesses which reliability is under the sign of question" - stressed Pantelic. "The defence will submit the objection, before all on the legitimacy of arresting, and then illegality of the sealed indictments" - said Pantelic, adding that the indictment contain lot of generalised claims, which from the legal point of view can't sustain.
