    [01] Slovenian FM visits Cyprus

Nicosia, May 25 (CNA) -- Slovenian Foreign Minister, Boris Frlec expressed his country's interest in the Cyprus problem, pointing out that Slovenia could assist efforts towards a settlement as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council.

Frlec, who is on an official visit to Cyprus, was received today by President Glafcos Clerides and President of the House of Representatives, Spyros Kyprianou.

Later today he will meet with his Cypriot counterpart, Ioannis Kasoulides to discuss Cyprus' and Slovenia's process of accession to the European Union.

After the conclusion of their meeting they will give a joint press conference.

Speaking after his meeting with House President Kyprianou, the Slovenian Foreign Minister talked in favour of "a more intensive and deeper dialogue", in order "to see what the actual possibilities of the two countries to join the EU are".

He also expressed his country's interest in understanding the problems of the Cyprus people.

As a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council "we might be in the position with a better knowledge of the problem to help", Frlec said.

On his part Kyprianou expressed the desire for greater cooperation between the two countries at all levels.
