    [01] Kasoulides - Statements

Nicosia, Jul 3 (CNA) -- Foreign Minister Ioannis Kasoulides dismissed today claims that President Clafcos Clerides was ready to discuss the question of the status of Turkish Cypriot leader Rauf Denktash put forward by German envoy for Cyprus Detlev zu Rantzau.

Kasoulides said "the opposite of the impression created by Rantzau's statement is true as far as the government policy towards Denktash is concerned".

He also said that on Monday President Clerides will present at the National Council meeting documents which prove exactly that.

"The call of the seven most industrialised countries and Russia (G8) is to go to New York to discuss a solution to the Cyprus problem, not anything implying a non-solution or what would happen if the Cyprus problem is not solved," Kasoulides said.

The Foreign Minister added that "in the framework of a future solution to the Cyprus problem" which as he pointed out should be a bizonal bicommunal federation, "we are ready to discuss all aspects of the Cyprus problem in parallel and simultaneously, including institutional arrangements for the federal government".

Replying to a question, Kasoulides said he expected that if Denktash puts forward his demand for a federation of two states in Cyprus, at the talks, it would be pointed out to him that "it is not in the framework" of UN resolutions.

Kasoulides said he expects the invitation for talks to come in September, after a scheduled visit by Turkish Prime Minister Bulent Ecevit to the US.
