[01] President Clerides - Summer vacation
Nicosia, Aug 2 (CNA) -- President Glafcos Clerides left late Sunday evening
for a week-long cruise to the Greek islands aboard his boat "Kaiti II".
This morning he arrived in the tiny island of Kastelorizo, east of Rhodes.
The President flew to the western coastal town of Paphos on a police
helicopter, from where he boarded his boat.
He will return to Cyprus on Sunday, August 8.
Replying to questions, President Clerides said he does not expect the
resignation of UN resident representative Dame Ann Hercus will affect the
Cyprus peace effort.
"Somebody else will be appointed to replace her," he said.
Last week the UN headquarters in New York announced that Dame Ann has
handed in her resignation for "family reasons", but has agreed to stay on
at her post until the end of September.
