[01] Stock Exchange - Three-day closure
Nicosia, Dec 6 (CNA) -- The Cyprus Stock Exchange (CSE) is closed from
today until Thursday to allow the introduction of a new system of
transactions. The decision to suspend transactions was taken by the CSE
Board last week.
The new settlement system will render the CSE more efficient and
flexible to deal with future problems even though it is not considered as
the final solution, according to the Board chairman Dinos Papadopoulos.

[02] Cyprus problem - Proximity talks
Nicosia, Dec 6 (CNA) -- The proximity talks on the Cyprus question, which
got underway on Friday, will resume today at the UN headquarters in New
York with the two sides elaborating on their positions in separate meetings
with UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan.
The UN chief will meet the Greek-Cypriot delegation led by President
Glafcos Clerides at 11:00 (New York time), followed by a meeting with the
Turkish Cypriot delegation headed by Rauf Denktash at 12:15.

[03] Turkish occupied areas - Illegal settlers
Nicosia, Dec 6 (CNA) -- The number of settlers from Turkey illegally
brought to the Turkish-occupied areas of Cyprus has more than doubled that
of the Turkish Cypriots, according to figures published in the Turkish
Cypriot daily "Avrupa" that criticises the occupation regime for lack of a
vision and strategy.
The newspaper points out that even though the results of population
censuses carried out in the occupied areas are never released, if one looks
at the number of Turkish Cypriots who have emigrated as well as the large
number of Turkish prisoners, owners of shops and employees "the situation
is more than obvious."
