    [02] Cyprus - Greece - EU - Cyprus problem

    Athens, Dec 20 (CNA) -- Foreign Ministers of Cyprus and Greece, Ioannis Kasoulides and George Papandreou, believe new prospects for settling the Cyprus question are opening up after the Helsinki European Union summit.

    Speaking after a meeting in Athens today, Papandreou referred to benefits from the improvement of Greco-Turkish relations and announced he will visit Cyprus soon, probably in January.

    [03] Government - Turkish Cypriot students

    Nicosia, Dec 20 (CNA) -- The amount of 77 thousand Cyprus pounds will be allotted by the government to 43 Turkish Cypriot students so that they can attend private schools in the areas of the Republic under its control. (One Cyprus pound trades at about 1.75 US dollars)

    According to an official announcement issued today, the decision was taken by the Council of Ministers in its meeting last Friday and the ammount covers the academic year 1999 - 2000 for primary, secondary and higher education.

    [04] Defence Ministers - Cyprus - Slovenia

    Nicosia, Dec 20 (CNA) -- Bilateral relations between Cyprus and Slovenia, especially in the defence field, were reviewed today during a meeting between Defence Minister Socrates Hasikos and his Slovenian counterpart Franci Demsar.

    Demsar, here to inspect his country's contingent in the UN Peace- keeping Force in Cyprus (UNFICYP), has invited Hasikos to visit Slovenia in the near future, an invitation accepted by the Cypriot Minister.

    [05] AKEL - Russian Communist Party - Message

    Nicosia, Dec 20 (CNA) -- Secretary-General of Cypriot left-wing party AKEL Demetris Christofias has sent a congratulatory message to the Chairman of the Communist Party of the Russian Federation (CPRF) Gennadii Zyuganov for the party's results in the parliamentary election held Sunday.

    "Results so far show that the Communist Party has recorded an important success," Christofias says in his message, adding that "for the CPRF these results mean taking on more responsibility" for promoting the interests of the people of Russia.
