Nicosia, Mar 24 (CNA) -- The results of the Helsinki EU Summit created a
"window of opportunity" for Cyprus which the European Union will try to use,
EU Commissioner in charge of enlargement Gunter Verheugen said here today
after a meeting with House of Representatives President Spyros Kyprianou.
Verheugen said they discussed the present situation regarding the Cyprus
question, adding he could share Kyprianou's experience on "how to deal
with" Turkish Cypriot leader Rauf Denktash, since he will be meeting him
later in the evening, in the Turkish-occupied part of Nicosia.

[02] Turkish Cypriots - UNFICYP - Bone Marrow donors
Nicosia, Mar 24 (CNA) -- Turkish Cypriots have expressed willigness to
become bone marrow donors for a six-year-old Cypriot boy, Andreas Vassiliou,
who suffers from leukaemia, UN Peace Keeping Forces in Cyprus (UNFICYP)
Spokesman Charles Gaulkin told CNA today, adding that all necessary
arrangements are expected to take place next week.
He added that blood samples will be taken from the Turkish Cypriot
volunteers at the Ledra Palace checkpoint in the Nicosia buffer zone and
then be sent by the UN to the laboratory of the Karaiskakion Foundation,
where they will be tested for marrow matches.

[03] Verheugen - Chief negotiator
Nicosia, Mar 24 (CNA) -- European Union Commissioner for enlargement Gunter
Verheugen said here today that Cyprus' accession process is "irrevesible"
and the country is "very well on track, with no particular prpoblems."
Cyprus' chief negotiator with the EU George Vassiliou said he had a "very
good" meeting, adding that work for harmonisation should continue in
earnest.
