    [02] Missing - UN report

    Nicosia, Jun 8 (CNA) - The government intends to make its position clear with regard to a reference to the issue of the missing in the latest report of the UN Secretary General on Cyprus, Nicos Theodosiou, President of the Committee of relatives of missing persons, said here today.

    He also said today's Committee meeting with President Glafcos Clerides and government officials decided on how to deal with the matter with a view to press for investigation into the fate of missing persons.

    [03] House - Deputy - Change of party

    Nicosia, Jun 8 (CNA) -- Deputy Andreas Philippou has abandoned the main opposition party AKEL and joined the Movement of Social Democrats.

    Philippou is the fourth deputy to have left his party seat or to have resigned in the present House, elected in May 1996. Another three deputies left the House to become government ministers.

    [05] Former president - Health - Return

    Larnaca , Jun 8 (CNA) - An emotional George Vassiliou, former Cyprus President who last month underwent major surgery to remove a benign brain tumour, returned home to a very warm welcome from family, friends and party members.

    "I thank you all very much, I felt you were always with me throughout these trying times, your warm wishes and your love gave me strength to recover and come back to you," Vassiliou said, on his return from London where he had the operation.

    [06] Cyprus - Czech Republic - Education programme

    Nicosia, Jun 8 (CNA) - Cyprus and the Czech Republic signed here today a cooperation programme on education, science, sport and youth, providing for exchange visits of educationalists, scientists and students.

    "The programme is signed at a time when Cyprus and the Czech Republic are on the threshold of accession to the European Union," Cyprus' Education and Culture Minister Ouranios Ioannides said as he signed the agreement with Czech Deputy Education Minister Jaroslav Soural.

    [07] Foreign Minister - Alternate Greek FM - Arrival

    Larnaca, Jun 8 (CNA) The Cyprus question and the Republic's accession course will be the focus of talks Foreign Minister Ioannis Kasoulides and Greek Alternate Foreign Minister Elisabeth Papazoe will have here in the next 24 hours.

    Welcoming Papazoe to Cyprus, Kasoulides said talks will aim at coordinating efforts between the two governments and noted her special interest in Cyprus, which she has elevated to one of her main topics of conversation with her European partners.
