    [01] Cyprus - European Environment Agency

    Larnaca, Oct 11 (CNA) -- Cyprus is participating in the European Environment Agency (EEA) after an agreement signed by Agriculture, Natural Resources and Environment Minister Costas Themistocleous earlier this week, along with his counterparts from other European Union candidate countries.

    Speaking on his return to the island from Brussels Tuesday evening, Themistocleous described the agreement as "an important development for Cyprus, as this is the first EU organisation it is participating in without the Republic having yet become a member."

    [02] Russian Foreign Minister - Cyprus

    Nicosia, Oct 11 (CNA) -- Russian Foreign Minister Igor Ivanov is due to arrive in Cyprus this afternoon from Damascus, last stop of his Middle East tour holding talks on the situation in the area.

    A Russian embassy spokesman told CNA that immediately after his arrival at Larnaca International Airport, Ivanov will travel to the capital Nicosia to hold official talks with his Cypriot counterpart Ioannis Kasoulides.

    [03] President Clerides - Russian Foreign Minister

    Nicosia, Oct 11 (CNA) - President Glafcos Clerides will receive here today Russian Foreign Minister Igor Ivanov, who is expected on the island early evening, it was officially announced here.

    Ivanov is scheduled to have official talks with his Cypriot counterpart Ioannis Kasoulides at the Foreign Ministry and the two are due to sign a bilateral agreement.

    [04] Spokesman Cyprus Turkey - EU

    Nicosia, Oct 11 (CNA) The Cyprus government has said that the governments of the 15 European Union member states should take seriously into consideration reports and resolutions on Cyprus and Turkey by the European Parliament.

    "Our objective is to have what the Parliament has endorsed ratified by the EU executive," Government Spokesman Michalis Papapetrou said here today, after the Committee of Foreign Affairs of the European Parliament adopted a report on Turkey on Tuesday.

    [05] Russian Foreign Minister - Cyprus - Schedule

    Nicosia, Oct 11 (CNA) - Russian Foreign Minister, Igor Ivanov, arrives in Cyprus at 18:00 (15:00 GMT) local time today, and will make brief statements to the press at 18:15.

    He will then depart for Nicosia, where he will lay a wreath at the statue of late President Archbishop Makarios III in the gardens of the Presidential Palace at 19:00 and will call on President Glafcos Clerides.

    At 19:35 Ivanov will arrive at the Foreign Ministry, where he will sing a protocol between the two countries on the Inventory of Bilateral Treaties, as well as a Programme of Culture and Scientific Cooperation for the period 2000-2002.
