[01] Defence lawyer set free
Nicosia, Feb 16 (CNA) - A lawyer, who was jailed for five days on Wednesday
by the Assize Court for contempt of court, was set free this morning so
that he does not stay in prison until Monday.
The Cyprus Bar Association has strongly opposed the Assize Court decision
against lawyer Michalakis Kyprianou and is demanding a change in the law so
that in such cases contempt of court is not tried by the same court in
which the incident occured.

on the other hand it will make no concessions concerning the conditions and
its principles a candidate country has to abide by in order to join the
Union.
Speaking at a lecture organised by the Institute for Eurodemocracy, Van den
Broek stressed in case that there will be no solution to the Cyprus problem
when negotiations are completed and the time of accession comes, the
Helsinki EU Summit decision would be applied. He said the EU doesn't want
