Larnaca, Mar 12 (CNA) -- Cyprus House of Representatives President Spyros Kyprianou has described Russia as a "very important factor" in the efforts to reach a settlement of the Cyprus problem and underlined that Russian involvement in these efforts is not only desirable but also indispensable.

Kyprianou left for Moscow today for a four-day official visit at the invitation of Russian Duma Chairman Gennadii Seleznev. He is heading a parliamentary delegation comprising parliamentary spokespersons of DISI (Panayiotis Demetriou), AKEL (Andreas Christou), Markos Kyprianou (DIKO) and Demetris Eliades (KISOS) and EDI deputy George Christofides.

    [02] Finance Minister - Moody's report - Cyprus economy

Nicosia, Mar 12 (CNA) -- A revised report by Moody's, one of the world's premier rating agencies, describes Cyprus' economy as stable and recognises "the progress that has been made in fiscal adjustments as well as convergence with European Union economic norms and legislation", Minister of Finance Takis Klerides said.

Commenting on the report on Cyprus' economy, issued today, Klerides said it would help in receiving international loans with a lower interest rate and would attract foreign investors.

[03] Greek Foreign Minister - Cyprus Olympic Committee

Nicosia, Mar 12 (CNA) -- If it was feasible for Greek Cypriot and Turkish Cypriot athletes to take the Olympic flame throughout Cyprus, it would be considered, Greek Foreign Minister George Papandreou said here today after a meeting with President of the Cyprus Olympic Committee Kikis Lazarides.

Papandreou, who is accompanied on his visit here by three Greek Olympic medallists, described Cyprus' contribution to preparations for the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens as "very valuable", while Lazarides said Cyprus will focus on voluntarism for the 2004 Games and would welcome the participation of Turkish Cypriots.

Paphos, Mar 12 (CNA) - Greek Foreign Minister George Papandreou has expressed the hope that a unified and demilitarised Cyprus will join the European Union, but said that until then the Republic has to build its defence capabilities.
