    [01] Turkish Cypriot - Trial - Verdict

    Larnaca, Mar 16 (CNA) -- The Assize Court found Turkish Cypriot Omer Tekogul guilty on seven drug-related charges today and will announce his sentence on Tuesday, March 20.

    Tekogul, 42, from the village of Pyla, on the south east, was facing seven charges including possession of drugs with intent to supply the narcotics to other persons.

    [02] Democratic Rally Party - EPP Committee

    Nicosia, Mar 16 (CNA) -- Britain's shadow Secretary of State, MP Francis Maude, has said that the British Conservatives are committed to working very closely with their Cypriot friends so that Cyprus will be included in the first wave of the next European Union (EU) enlargement "that should be admitted by the year 2004."

    Speaking after a meeting the Committee of Security and Defence of the European People's Party (EPP) had here today with President of the Democratic Rally Party, Nicos Anastasiades, Maude expressed the strong hope that the Turkish Cypriot leadership will soon return to the UN-led negotiations "so that a settlement on the long-standing agreed basis of a bizonal, bicommunal, federal future of Cyprus can be advanced at an early stage."

    [03] Cyprus House President - Armenia - Meetings

    Nicosia, Mar 16 (CNA) -- The Cyprus problem and bilateral relations between Cyprus and Armenia were at the centre of discussions President of the House of Representatives Spyros Kyprianou had today in Armenia with the Prime Minister of the country Andranik Margarian and Chairman of the Constitutional Court Gagik Harutiunyan.

    The Armenian Prime Minister expressed to Kyprianou his country's and people's appreciation for Cyprus' constant support to Armenia in various international fora and said his country also expresses its support to Cyprus at various international meetings.

    [04] Cypriot Ministers - EU meeting

    Brussels, Mar 16 (CNA) – Cyprus Justice Minister Nicos Koshis has assured his European Union counterparts that the Republic is closely following developments and decisions regarding security, justice and freedom and proposed ways for furthering practical coordination between state services dealing with law enforcement.

    Koshis was speaking at a meeting of Justice and Internal Affairs Ministers held in Brussels today, during which Cypriot Interior Minister Christodoulos Christodoulou called on member states to tackle the reasons for which people leave their country and illegally try to immigrate.
