    [01] President Clerides - Israeli Foreign Minister

    Nicosia, Apr 23 (CNA) -- Cyprus and Israel are working in the same direction and relations between the two countries are extremely good, Israeli Foreign Minister Shimon Peres has said, adding that Cyprus can host further peace meetings for the Middle East peace process.

    Peres also said he had a "very good and very pleasant meeting" with President Glafcos Clerides this morning, adding that both countries wish to turn the Middle East into an area similar to Europe.

    [02] Cyprus - Israel - Foreign Ministers - Press conference

    Nicosia, Apr 23 (CAN) -- Efforts to bring about peace in Cyprus and the Middle East were the focus of today's discussions between Foreign Minister Ioannis Kasoulides and his Israeli counterpart Shimon Peres, who referred to common goals and talked about the benefits Cyprus' accession to the European Union would bring to the region, noting also that the Republic can play a role in the Middle East peace process.

    Peres, on a two-day official visit here, urged Cypriots not to lose hope or patience in the search for peace even at the most difficult times whereas Kasoulides said Cyprus is more than ready to make any contribution towards establishing peace in the region.

    Íicosia, Ápr 23 (CNA) - The Meteorological Office at Larnaca International Airport has issued the following weather forecast for Cyprus:

    Tuesday and Wednesday : 24/04/2001 to 25/04/2001

    On Tuesday it will be partly cloudy with risk of isolated showers but on Wednesday fine and mainly clear.

    Winds moderate westerly to southwesterly and the state of sea will be slight to moderate.

    Maximum temperature: 23C inland and over coast. minimum temperature: 12C inland and around 15C over coast

    Outlook for Thursay and Friday: 26/04/2001 to 27/04/2001

    Fine and mainly clear and the temperature is expected to increase.

    [05] Pesident Clerides - Commonwealth Universities - Conference

    Nicosia, Apr 23 (CNA) -- Cyprus President Glafcos Clerides said today that the policy of his government aims at establishing Cyprus as an international and regional education centre, attributing great significance to tertiary education and to university education in particular.

    In an address at the opening ceremony of the Conference of the Association of Commonwealth Universities Conference of Executive Heads in Nicosia, read out by Education and Culture Minister Ouranios Ioannides, President Clerides welcomed some 280 executive heads from 35 countries who participate in the conference on "New Configurations in Globalisation. Forging links between the universities of the Commonwealth, the EU and other regional groupings". CNA AAR/GP 2001
