    [03] Commerce Minister - European Commissioner

    Nicosia, Mar 9 (CNA) - Cyprus is making very good progress in matters of health and consumer policy and its legislation will be in place well before the likely date of Cyprus' accession to the European Union (EU), European Commissioner for Health and Consumer Policy David Byrne said here today, after a meeting with Commerce, Industry and Tourism Minister Nicos Rolandis.

    "We reviewed today the progress that has been made by Cyprus in the transposition of the European Law into the Laws of Cyprus and we noted that a very good progress has been made on this", Byrne said. CNA/AAR/RG/2001

    [04] EU Commissioner - Cyprus - Meetings

    Nicosia, May 9 (CNA) – European Union Commissioner for Consumer and Health Protection David Byrne expressed satisfaction with the progress Cyprus has made and the very hard work undertaken in adopting European laws and regulations, speaking at a press conference after a number of meetings with ministers and other high level officials in Nicosia today.

    On his part, the Republic's chief negotiator in the accession talks with the EU George Vassiliou recalled that today is Europe Day and the 51st anniversary since the Union was set up and said it is of particular importance to Cypriots who look towards a secure future when their country becomes a member state.
