1620:CYPRESS:02 Spokesman - Turkish Cypriot leader - Missing
Nicosia, Jun 27 (CNA) -- Government Spokesman Michalis Papapetrou today
expressed regret over Turkish Cypriot leader Rauf Denktash's negative
response to a government call to relatives of Turkish Cypriot missing
persons to give blood to facilitate the process of identifying remains of
Turkish Cypriots, to be unearthed.
"I regret that on matters which we should all consider humanitarian,
Denktash once more blocks the way forward and essentially acts against the
interests of the relatives of Turkish Cypriot missing persons," the
spokesman said, invited to comment on the response from the Turkish Cypriot
side to the government appeal.

[03] Spokesman - European Court - Resolution
Nicosia, Jun 27 (CNA) -- The government attaches great significance to a
call by the Council of Europe (CoE) to its member states to take action
with a view to ensure Turkey's compliance with a European Court of Human
Rights judgment which found Ankara guilty of human rights violations in
Cyprus.
The government, commenting on Turkey's reaction to the call which is
included in a resolution adopted by the Committee of Ministers of the CoE
in the case of Titina Loizidou, said Ankara's response reflected its
inability to produce convincing arguments to back its positions, which the
Court had already rejected.

[04] Spokesman - EU - Turkey
Nicosia, Jun 27 (CNA) -- The Cyprus question is an issue which Turkey will
encounter in its accession course to join the European Union as a difficult
matter which has to be dealt with and the closer Cyprus gets to its EU
membership, the more difficulties this will create for Ankara, Government
Spokesman Michalis Papapetrou has said.
He also said that Turkey is now facing tough questioning of its policies on
Cyprus from European quarters, something which in the past was done by
Greece.

[05] Foreign Minister - EU - Turkish threats
Nicosia, Jun 27 (CNA) -- Foreign Minister Ioannis Kasoulides has said
Turkish threats against Cyprus' membership of the European Union, prior to
a political settlement, are not going to dent Europe's resolve to accept

Department Special Coordinator for Cyprus Thomas Weston, whom he met in
Brussels in the past couple of days.
