Nicosia, Aug 21 (CNA) -- The possibility of launching a regional index as
well as a joint venture was examined during a meeting held here yesterday
between Cyprus' Stock Exchange President Paris Lenas, his Greek counterpart
Panayiotis Alexakis, Senior Vice President of Trading Department of Tel
Aviv's Stock Exchange Dror Sialit and representatives of London market's
designer of market indices, FTSE International.
Speaking to CNA, Lenas said the three bourses wish to create regional
indices, based on securities of the three bourses, that could be used to
track equity or derivative markets, mutual funds and other index funds.

[02] Cyprus - Conference - Afghanistan
Nicosia, Aug 21 (CNA) -- Cyprus will host an international conference
entitled "Peace for Afghanistan" to be organised here on the initiative of
former Foreign Minister of Afghanistan Homayun Jarir, with the
participation of the country's former President Mogaddedi Sebghatullah.
Speaking to CNA on the part of the organisers Kikes Trepides, said that
about 35 people are expected to take part in the Conference to be held
between 24 - 28 August in Nicosia.

[03] President Clerides - Spokesman - Cyprus problem
Nicosia, Aug 21 (CNA) -- The Greek Cypriot side will request nothing more
than its solid demands for a solution to the Cyprus problem based on
relevant UN Security Council resolutions and European Court of Human
Rights' decisions, President of the Republic Glafcos Clerides has said
adding that the UN Secretary General "is quite experienced on the Cyprus
question so as to deal properly with Turkish Cypriot leader Rauf Denktash's
tactics before and during the resumption of UN-led talks."
On his part Government Spokesman Michalis Papapetrou said here today that
UN Secretary General's Special Adviser on Cyprus Alvaro de Soto had
conveyed in written to President Clerides his intention to visit Cyprus
between August 29 and September 5 and had submitted a schedule of contacts
with President Clerides, pending approval.
