Christodoulou: Reservations about the outcome of talks
Nicosia, Dec 23 (CNA) - Cyprus Interior Minister Christodoulos
Christodoulou expressed here today reservations about the outcome of
UN-led direct talks on Cyprus, to begin here in mid-January, noting
that Turkey and Turkish Cypriot leader Rauf Denktash have not yet given
any indications that they will withdraw their unacceptable demands for
a solution providing for two states and a confederation on the island.
Christodoulou noted that the Greek-Cypriot side, acting with
discretion, unity, unanimity and determination, must be and will always
be ready to face all probabilities, adding that there is no doubt "that
our struggle will continue to be hard and painful."
This new endeavour (UN-led direct talks), welcomed overwhelmingly by
other countries, has caused concerns and reasonable reservations about
the possibility of positive developments, that would lead to an
honourable, just, viable, and lasting solution of the problem,
Christodoulou noted.
