UN meeting on Middle East seeks help to achieve peace
Nicosia, Apr 17 (CNA) -- A two-day international meeting, under UN
auspices, in support of Middle East peace has called for close
involvement of the UN Security Council and invited the Council to apply
all means at its disposal to ensure implementation of its resolutions
and also invited other bodies to assist the peace effort too.
In "the Nicosia Declaration", participants to the meeting, which ended
here today, expressed great alarm at the intensification of the
conflict in the region and serious concern at the continuing siege of
the Palestinian President and Bethlehem.
They backed the deployment of an international force to monitor a
ceasefire when this is secured and expressed appreciation to the
government of Cyprus for its active and constructive role in the search
for a comprehensive peace in the region.
