    Nicosia, Jun 7 (CNA) -- Cyprus Minister of Commerce, Industry and Tourism Nicos Rolandis will attend a meeting of ministers responsible for energy matters from countries of the Eastern Mediterranean region, at the invitation of Jordan's Energy Minister Mohammad Batayneh. The meeting will take place in Amman, Jordan, June 16.

    Turkish troops release abducted Greek Cypriot

    Nicosia, Jun 7 (CNA) - Á Greek Cypriot 50-year-old man, who was yesterday abducted by Turkish troops, was set free this afternoon by the Turkish troops occupying the northern third of the island.

    Georgios Papageorgiou, a refugee from the Turkish-occupied village of Peristeronopigi, now living in a Larnaca village, reached the government-controlled areas of the Republic in a car accompanied by UN peacekeepers. Papageorgiou, who looked tired but moved, was brought to the Ledra Palace checkpoint in Nicosia, where relatives of his were waiting for his release.

    German official says Helsinki decision valid

    Nicosia, Jun 7 (CNA) -- Director of the European Commission Delegation in Berlin Axel Bunz said that the Helsinki European Council decision on Cyprus, that a solution to the Cyprus question is not a precondition for EU accession, is valid. He also expressed conviction that Cyprus will conclude its EU accession negotiations this year.

    At a gathering on Cyprus, organised yesterday by the Office of the European Commission's delegation in Berlin, Cyprus' Chief Negotiator with the EU George Vassiliou spoke about the island's EU accession course and the Cyprus problem.
