Overseas Cypriots call for concerted action to avert crisis

Nicosia, Aug 30 (CNA) -- Overseas Cypriots, who concluded their annual meeting here, have called on the government and the island's political leadership to act effectively in close cooperation with Greece in order to preempt any possible crisis and help find a settlement in Cyprus.

"The continuing Turkish occupation of the island's northern areas, Ankara's intransigent positions, ethnic cleansing policies Turkey applies in Cyprus and the unacceptable and unreasonable demands the Turkish side puts forward at the negotiating table prevent any progress towards a just and viable settlement," the resolution said.
