    Athens, Jan 24 (CNA) - Russian Minister of Foreign Affairs Igor Ivanov said today it was necessary for the UN-led talks on the Cyprus problem to continue on the basis of a plan put to the Greek Cypriot and the Turkish Cypriot sides by the UN chief.

    Speaking through an interpreter after a meeting in Athens with the EU Troika, Ivanov said he met the UN Secretary General's Special Adviser on Cyprus Alvaro de Soto this morning, who elaborated on the difficulties faced in reaching a settlement.

    Athens, Jan 24 (CNA) - Greek Minister of Foreign Affairs George Papandreou has expressed the Greek government's absolute support to the efforts of the UN chief's Special Adviser on Cyprus Alvaro de Soto, in efforts to reach a comprehensive settlement to the Cyprus problem.

    Nicosia, Jan 24 (CNA) Government Spokesman Michalis Papapetrou said here Friday Cyprus cannot undertake all the financial strain that will ensue from the implementation of a Cyprus settlement and therefore the international community should come forward with a more substantial contribution.

    Central Bank Governor, Christodoulos Christodoulou, said he has already prepared a suggestion on the issue and has handed it to President of the Republic Glafcos Clerides, saying it is indispensable to undertake an in depth study on the cost of a solution.
