    Friday and Saturday: 25/07/2003 to 26/07/2003 --------------------

    Fine with patchy cloud. Winds will be moderate, sea breezes and the state of sea slight but locally moderate in the afternoon.

    Maximum temperature: 37C inland, around 34C over south coastal areas and 30C over west coastal areas.

    Minimum temperature: Around 24C inland and over south coastal areas and 22C over west coastal areas.

    Outlook for Sunday and Monday: 27/07/2003 to 28/07/2003

    Nicosia, Jul 24 (CNA) - Cypriot President Tassos Papadopoulos said today that he was glad Turkish Cypriot leader Rauf Denktash had responded to ''a request of ours'' and had notified UN Secretary General Kofi Annan that the Turkish occupation regime was ready to discuss with the UN the lifting of minefields around Nicosia.

    Nicosia, Jul 24 (CNA) -- There is no doubt that there is a connection between the Cyprus problem and Turkey's European course, Italian Minister of European Affairs Rocco Buttiglione said here today after meeting Foreign Minister Georgios Iacovou.

    ''I would not put a direct link but there is no doubt that there is a connection,'' Buttiglione said when asked if the settlement of the Cyprus problem should be among the criteria for Turkey's accession to the EU.

    Italian official to visit Cyprus

    Nicosia, Jul 24 (CNA) - Italian Minister of Internal Affairs and EU Presidency representative Giuseppe Pisanu arrives in Cyprus tomorrow for a short visit, during which he will discuss various issues concerning bilateral relations and the EU.

    Pisanu will meet with Minister of the Interior Andreas Christou and a representative of the Ministry of Justice and Public Order, to whom he will present the Italian Presidency's programme and will discuss matters of cooperation to solve problems Cyprus may face next year on becoming a full member of the EU and Cyprus' expectations from the Italian Presidency.

    He will also discuss issues concerning cooperation to combat illegal immigration and the cooperation between the police forces of Cyprus and Italy.

    Pisanu departs from the island on July 26.

    Eurocontrol says Cyprus among first in air traffic control

    Nicosia, Jul 24 (CNA) - A report by Eurocontrol for 2002 places Cyprus among ''the most successful countries'' in Europe regarding the control of air traffic.

    Minister of Communications and Works Kyriakos Kazamias met today with Eurocontrol Foreign and International Affairs Chief Christos Petrou, who handed him the report for 2002.
