ECOFIN adopts recommendation to the Cyprus Government

Brussels, Jul 6 (CNA) -- The European Economic and Financial Affairs Council (ECOFIN) has adopted a recommendation to the government of the Cyprus Republic to reduce public deficit from 6.3% of GDP (Gross Domestric Product) in 2003 and bring it below the reference value of 3% of GDP by the end of 2005.

Cyprus was represented at yesterday's meeting of the Council by Finance Minister Iacovos Keravnos.

Cyprus to inform EU on implementation of its convergence programme

Nicosia, Jul 6 (CNA) -- Cyprus will report in early November to the European Union on the level and the course of the implementation of its convergence programme and other relevant measures aimed at reducing public deficit and putting its financial affairs back on track, Government Spokesman Kypros Chrysostomides has said.
